Season’s Greetings to the art book community. Every art book starts from one idea, whether is be simple, or complex, our art books always echoes the voice of the artist. We never copy and paste a format, each book is manifested with care in close collaboration. We look forward to the coming year, creating more art books and sharing these droplets of ideas across the globe.

Paper waste is a huge thing, especially this time of year. Before you throw your paper way, think twice if you can make use of it. Belgian artist Denmark bases his entire practise around paper. In looking for the essence, Denmark developed a unique, artistic approach, that would gradually include print, media, such as books, newspapers, and magazines, and folding, screwing, and sanding them, gluing them together, freezing them, and preserving them in water, gelatine, or paraffin. In doing so, Denmark is targeting not only the media industry, but also the art world, and in that sense, his work echoes the institutional critic prevalent in the 1970s. Denmark’s archival installations can be interpreted not only as unusable, and therefore between ‘unruly’ archives, but also as purified, silent disruptors: contemporary vanitas still lifes, which confront us with the hysterical ‘information fetishism’, that has characterized the past few decades.

‘anarchives’ by Denmark is a 456 pages monograph on his artistic practise around the material paper.

‘the bear and butterfly’ by Ruth van Haren Noman contains a selection of watercolours that were created across the seasons of one year. Starting in winter; slumbering, slow and hidden like a bear in hibernation, then spring; rooting and developing, unfolding itself like a butterfly. Summer arrives; flourishing and ripening towards the harvest in autumn, where things get processed and perhaps shaped into a book which can nurture us during yet another winter.

Launch and exhibition in January 2025 in Antwerp at - more info to follow next year.

Ziltes by Bernadette Messiaen is a gem for photography and art book lovers, a collector’s object in an edition of 450 copies. Ziltes is an artists’ book inspired by the complex architecture of Japanese artists’ books with over half the pages in the book being empty to create a slowness in wandering through the book. Because of these different aspects, the reader is “forced” to take their time in order to fully feel the experience of the book. Ziltes is a book without noise, where the images have space to whisper within their sequence.

L’Ombre des Belges by Bram Van Stappen is a visual exploration that defies traditional narrative and linear logic, instead embracing fragmented, textured imagery. L’Ombre des Belges confronts themes of materiality, cultural artifacts, identity, etc. Through a series of mostly paired images, L’Ombre des Belges evokes a world where objects, nature, and human presence intertwine but never resolve. The work dismantles conventional hierarchies, presenting axes like surface vs. texture or natural vs. cultural not as fixed, but as fluid and ever-changing.

The series questions the nature of the images themselves; offering no clear topography or typology. Instead, it’s an ongoing negotiation, where surface, texture, and materiality evoke history’s remnants and cultural codes without succumbing to simple visual closure. Each image pulses with presence and absence, creating a sequence where the form is continually unmade and remade. In L’Ombre des Belges, the photos don’t merely document; they challenge the viewer to look beyond what is immediately visible, confronting reality’s fragile, layered, and shifting nature.

The jury about Musée de la Mémoire ‘PROPRIÉTÉ UNIVERSELLE’ ® : This excellent project is a book about a museum that does not exist or has not existed. It contains a lot of material, but nevertheless radiates a strong consistency and remains calming. Many aspects come together, such as photography, collage, typography, artefacts, notes and archives, and it is at the same time contemporary and timeless. It forms an alternative and clever way to walk through a museum in a free and unconstrained way. Moreover, it is very daring and innovative to let a book function as a kind of tactile museum.

We are so happy to have had the chance to collaborate with Belgian artist Linda Vinck to help create and publish her monography ‘Basic Rhythms of Being: A life in patterns’. Thank you to Linda, book designer Elena Bollette, publisher Bruno Devos and Paul Vandenbroeck, Ernest Van Buynder, and Dirk Verhaegen for the texts (EN/NL).

Linda Vinck is a visual artist with a long-standing and sustainably developed body of work centered around rhythm and pattern formation. She has a deep affinity with dance and contemporary composers. Additionally, her work is in no small part ‘coloured’ (but not determined) by a year-long stay on the Cape Verde Islands, and she is fascinated by the interplay of predictable and unpredictable micro-forms in nature.
