Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stated that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina needs to be brought back to Bangladesh for justice. In an interview with an Indian news agency, Dr. Yunus said, “Yes, she (Sheikh Hasina) must be brought back, otherwise, the people of Bangladesh will not be at peace. The kind of brutality she has carried out should be judged publicly,” as reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI).

However, he did not specify whether his government would formally request Sheikh Hasina's extradition from Delhi.

The interview was published on the PTI News website on Thursday, 5 September.

Following unprecedented anti-government protests, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the position of Prime Minister and went to India on 5 August. Her presence in India for nearly four weeks has sparked speculation in Bangladesh.

Muhammad Yunus stated that no one is comfortable with Sheikh Hasina's presence in India because "we want to bring her back for trial."

“She is in India and occasionally making statements, which is causing problems. If she were silent, we (the issue) would have been forgotten; people would have forgotten as well, because she would have been in her own world. But being in India, she is speaking and giving various instructions. Nobody likes this,” he added.
