Visited the old Imperial Palace and Citadel for the end of Têt. It was absolutely incredible to walk the grounds and buildings and learn about the history. After having watched so many Women and Men, locals and foreigners dress in traditional attire during the holidays I wanted to as well. Apparently it is a tradition to dress up in the dress of one of the 47 regions in the country and walk around to the many existing, or manufactured picturesque locations to take “postcard photos.” They even have shops where you can rent not only clothing, but have hair and makeup done, and have a photographer follow you around. (I bought my Ao Dai from a small family owned shop in Old Town.) Our hotel manager was so excited that I was dressing up and told me I could not go out with a hat, so she went in the back and came back with one. I already had a fan that I use for hot days, so I was then deemed fit to go out for the day. (She said she normally dressed up for the holiday, but hadn’t that year). I have to say, along with all the smiles, compliments I got ,I have to say this was one of the most comfortable ensembles I’ve ever worn. It has the beauty of a dress and convenience of wearing pants.

Visiting Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge, and just “happened” to have my Mermaid tail by Mertailor Mermaid Tails By Eric Ducharme in my backpack. After the bridge we visited the temple and Buddha and then the Sun World theme park at the top of the mountain. Can you believe this was all in the same place?

Woke up to these birds tapping on our window the day we left Koh Rong, then we watched monkeys while we waited for the ferry. That’s island life for you 😄. We took an interesting and bumpy (unpaved road) 3 hr ride to Kampot where we stayed in an adorable bungalow on the river for one night. Kampot is know for its peppercorn farms and they put it on every dish! Next up-3 days at the beachside town of Kep. Kep was a relaxing and sleepy little town. Apparently it used to be a vacation spot for the French when they had Cambodia under a protectorate, but it was later mostly abandoned and is just now reviving after many years. Interesting cultural note:there we are bunch of pavilions with hammocks hanging lining the beaches-apparently you can rent them for the day and entire families would come and get one or two spots and lounge and eat while they enjoyed the breeze. More people lounged than went in the Ocean. Interesting to watch.
