As a bit of a side highlight each year for the Lithgow Arts Trail ...

PEONIES AT FORTY BENDS
Peonies will be blooming at Forty Bends over the next few weeks or so. Our peonies are the first commercial crop to bloom in Australia and New Zealand every year We sell to the public and florists but you must ring/text Sarah at 0434 838 932 or email; [email protected] ...we are 5 minutes out of Lithgow.

Covid has stopped our Artist's Trail and our popular weekend peony afternoon tea fundraiser that usually runs through November.

Instead, garden clubs and our regular peony enthusiast groups can talk to me about organising peony paddock rambles.
As usual, our garden walks are free. We have no ability to ensure people's complete safety during COVID so please only come if you have taken note of all the restrictions and are fit and healthy. Groups come for small wanderings in the fresh air and enjoy the garden if not the usual afternoon tea. The house will not be accessible. I am happy to give instructive talks and answer questions.

The historic garden and farm looks superb with the great season,
Updates will be available every few days once flowering is underway with pictures of different peony varieties blooming.

Please like and share and leave a comment. Sarah.

Seeing as this is a great time to get back into the garden here are two episodes of Susanne Rix's show 'Green Thumbs' to inspire you into getting your hands dirty.
One is from February and is Mary Moody talking with Susanne Rix about her garden at Blackheath and her experiences with gardening generally.
Mary has worked for Gardening Australia at ABC Australia and as a publicist at the Australian Film and TV School in Ryde.
She claims to have studied bad behaviour at Mosman High School which she left in 1968. She lives in Blackheath, New South Wales
She has lived in in Leura, New South Wales and Frayssinet-Le-Gélat, Midi-Pyrenees, France.
The other is from early March when Susanne Rix interviewed Jacqueline Forster about the Edible Garden Trail back in March 7-8. Blue Mountains Edible Garden Trail page shows all the details from the event as well as info about new Virtual Garden Trails you can do right now.

Susanne Rix founded the Edible Garden Trail in 2017. It featured over 40 gardens and attracted 500+ visitors from all over NSW. It has grown from the early beginnings to include 10 schools and 4 community gardens in the 2020 trail in the Blue Mountains as well as almost 50 private gardens throughout the mountains. In addition, the trail has begun to spread around NSW and beyond, with an expansive Sydney trail as well as South Coast and Victoria trails happening in 2020. The trail raises money for participating school and community gardens. “Protecting the planet one edible garden at a time” For more information about the trail in the Blue Mountains, check the website: ediblegardentrail.com or page: Edible Garden Trail Blue Mountains I hope you find this program entertaining as well as informative, especially when the guests share the gems they have developed in response to their own gardening experiences. If you would like to join me on the program or add your thoughts and suggestions for the program, email me (Susanne Rix) on [email protected]
