Something a little different from the norm. A few weeks ago I recorded an EP for the punk band Disgraceland. The idea behind this was a no-frills, nothing fancy, natural approach, so we decided to record the foundation with the whole band playing live in a room, straight into the desk. No click tracks, no timing adjustment, and no pitch correction, how it used to be done decades ago. After the band was recorded, we added second guitar tracks and then the vocals. Yes it’s dirty, yes it’s not perfect, but it’s not supposed to be. It was very refreshing to break away from the constant pressure of the overly perfect, overly saturated production trickery that most of the younger bands want these days, and these guys are a great example of a band who can play everything they write well, and chose a production method that works for them and supports their genre. Had a blast recording these. Music with live energy and feel, without the dependence on modern technology to make it happen 🤘🏼
