Some weirdest and Did you Know facts about water—

1. 75% of the Human Brain is made up of water.

2. Water is alien... Water was not present on earth from the beginning, but it came on earth through falling asteroids and comets.

3. Every day, an average persons wastes around 30 gallons of water unknowingly.

4. Water is the only molecule that expands when it goes from liquid to solid.

5. A standard shower head uses upto 2.5 gallons of water a minute, and 25 gallons for 10 minutes shower.

1. Nearly 22,000 children die each day due to living in poverty.

2. There are 2.2 billion children in the world, and 1 billion of them live in poverty.

3. A quarter of humanity, 1.6 billion people, lives without electricity.

4. Global poverty has decreased by half over the last decade; however, 71 percent of the population still live in low-income or poor ($10 a day) conditions.

5. According to an Oxfam report, if the world’s 100 richest people pooled their collective earnings in 2012, they could have ended extreme world poverty four times over.

6. Some 54 percent of Americans are considered to be living below the poverty line.

7. By maintaining the current rate of progress, poverty should reach its target eradication around 2025-2030.

8. For every $25 spent on repaying debt only $1 goes to aiding a developing country.

9. Five countries house three-fifths of the world’s extreme poor: Bangladesh, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India and Nigeria.

10. In 2011, about 800 children under the age of five died every hour.

1. Americans throw 25 trillion Styrofoam cups every year!

2. Wood and Paper wasted annually can heat upto 50,000,000 houses or 50 million houses for 20 years.

3. American throw away 2.5 million or 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour!

4. Beef is one of the major causes of Deforestation. As, cows need 28x land than chicken or pigs for grazing purposes.

5. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It is a collection of trash and waste and is 2x bigger than Continental America. Contains about 100,000,000,000 kgs of waste. It stretches from west coast of America to Japan along the Pacific Ocean.

6. In the last 170 years, we added 2.4 trillion tons of Carbon Dioxide into our atmosphere. Half of this was added in the last 35 to 50 years.

7. Most emissions come from a relatively small number of countries. The seven largest emitters—the United States, the European Union (EU), China, Russia, Japan, India, and Canada—accounted for more than 70% of energy-related CO2 emissions in 2004.1

8. The Ozone Layer “Hole” which is 29 million square kilometers, is expected to be fully healed in the next 55 years. This is due to the worldwide banning of chlorofluorocarbon and hydrofluorocarbon.

8. Say no to bags when you go shopping! A plastic bag is used for an average of 12 minutes but will remain in the environment for 1,000 years before it decomposes.

9. Germany has the best recycling rate in the world followed by Austria, South Korea, and Wales.

10. Around 20% of the world’s total oxygen is produced in the Amazon rainforest, where 1% of tree species sequester 50% of the region’s carbon. The forest has 16,000 different species of trees and is estimated to have nearly 400 billion individual trees. All of this arboreal magnificence sequesters between 90 and 140 billion metric tons of carbon. When we lose forest habitat, that carbon makes its way back into the atmosphere.

11 (Bonus Fact). Despite the fact that Norway is over 6,000 miles from Brazil, the country donated a billion US dollars to help save the Amazon rainforest between 2008 and 2015. In fact, the Norwegians are the biggest benefactor in the world for protecting the tropical rainforests.
