Stay Healthy
The pandemic has caused a lot of havoc in our lives. It has affected our health, studies/work schedule, social and personal lives, leisure activities and lifestyle in general. However, it has been an eye opener on many counts, one of the most important being the attention that we need to pay to our health.
Yes, more than ever, the pandemic has taught us that our mental and physical health should be our priority over all other requirements.
How do we stay healthy in such difficult circumstances? Well, fortunately we can take good care of our health by adopting a healthy lifestyle with quite simple means.
1. Make sure you have balanced meals every day.
For a balanced meal, you do not need complicated foodstuffs or preparations all the time. You simply need to ensure that you have a reasonable amount of the following nutrients in your meal on a daily basis:
- carbohydrates (from food items such as bread, rice, potatoes, cereals etc
- proteins (from sources such as fish, meat, eggs, pulses, milk etc)
- fat (healthy fats from eg. nuts, butter, fatty fish, milk, cheese etc)
- fibre (from cereals, green vegetables, carrots, nuts, maize etc)
- vitamins (mainly from fruits, grains, milk etc)
- minerals (from fruits, vegetables, milk products stc)
- water
The above are but indications. There are numerous food items that can fit in each category.
A simple meal consisting of some rice, a bowl of pulses, some green vegetables, a few fruits and plenty of water already makes provision for part of the amount of carbohydrates, proteins, fibre, vitamins and minerals you need in a balanced diet. With three meals per day, we can ensure our daily nutritional needs through some good planning.
Add a generous salad in your everyday meal. A vegetable salad including grated carrots, cucumber, beetroot and a few leaves of lettuce is very easy to make and complements our nutritional intake. If you do not have all these ingredients, it’s no worry: even one or two of them will do. A fruit salad can be one of the best deserts or snacks you can have, with seasonal or easily available fruits such as pawpaws, mangoes, apples, oranges, bananas, etc.
Drink plenty of water.
Keep three litres of water already filled in bottles on your dining table every day to ensure that you drink sufficient water per day. Drink a glass or two, as much as you can manage, every half an hour or so. Take at least two of the filled bottles to work or one bottle while going out on short trips.
2. Exercising
Do some physical exercises every day. Adopt the 10, 000 steps formula. Walk for at least half an hour to ensure that you are walking at least 10, 000 steps per day. If you cannot go out for your walk, walk in the space you have at home, eg. the yard or corridor. You can even walk or jog on the spot
Breathing exercises are equally important to have healthy lungs. Take deep breaths through the nose and exhale slowly through the mouth for 5 minutes. You may also do your breathing exercises while walking.
Breathe in deeply till the lungs are full and then try emptying your lungs through short and vigorous exhalations. Do this at least 5 times at one go.
3. Keep in touch
With our hectic work-life commitments, we often isolate ourselves from those who are close to us. The pandemic has taught us the importance of keeping in touch with our nears and dears. Even if we cannot go to meet each other often and more so with the restricted movements that we can afford ourselves these days, we have so many means to contact people. Use the social media to keep in touch. A regular message and a few minutes’ talk every few days will do us and our close ones much good.
4. Manage our time and resources
Resources are scarce and valuable, including time. Make good use of spare time by doing something useful, eg. an interesting hobby.
Spend money wisely and save for hard times.
Use your own means to produce what is possible so that you can save on your resources and at the same time derive pleasure and satisfaction from the activity, eg. planting herbs and vegetables that are easy to grow in the limited space you may have.
5. Engage children and family members in your healthy activities
It’s good to rope in children and family members in your activities, eg. choosing ingredients for a meal with attention to required nutrients, keeping required number of bottles filled with required amount of water for daily consumption, walking or jogging etc. It’s always pleasant to have company and it will help develop good habits in everybody at home.
The above are some tips for a simple and healthy lifestyle that all of us already know about, but a small reminder can always be beneficial. There are so many other activities that we can do to adopt a healthy lifestyles, eg. doing yoga, meditation, swimming, trekking etc. All depends on the amount of available time and resources, but some basic routines are important to adopt.

No school as from tomorrow
Due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases, pre-primary, primary and secondary schools as well as tertiary education institutions will remain closed as from tomorrow Wednesday 10th November until further notice. As from Thursday 11th November, grade 7 to 9 students will have lessons on the student portal of the MBC and grade 10 to 13 students will have on-line classes. Modular assessments will be conducted in January 2022. These measures have been taken to protect students from being exposed to the infection at school level. Please avoid going out and protect yourselves. Please follow all sanitary precautions strictly.

Garde enn ti stock mange pou environ 2 semaines, sirtout banne produit ki banne zenfant bizin, zis pou pas bizin alle la boutik ou supermarche souvent. Pas faire panic buying. Gard enn ti stock medicament telle que Dolipranne, Neurofen cold & Flu, et banne lozenge. Aster olbas oil et thermogene, Vick vaporub, garde. Ou capav servi longtemps sa.
Si ou senti ban symptoms tel ki la gorge grate ou la fievre, faire enn test PCR. Si positive, al lopital pou gagne medicine approprier.
Attack problem la des ki ou senti banne symptoms. Ena beaucoup remede home-made ki pou aider pou soulage ou. Gargariser avec de leau disel. Boire de leau chaud. Boire di the avec gingembre, limon et dumiel. Boire du lait avec safran, enne pincee du poivre et du miel. Faire la tisane avec citronelle, feuille betel (3 – 4), feuille tulsi et girofle et boire. Pas necessaire ena tou sa feuille la, 2-3 mem assez. Prend beaucoup Vitamin C et fruits pour renforce system. Faire inhalation chaque 2 – 3 hrs avec lessence eucalyptus, ou capave aussi mette thermogene ou olbas oil dans de leau la. Frotte bronches et la gorge avec thermogene ou Vick.
Pou zenfant surtout – chauffe feuille bom du perou, p***e so jus, ajoute jus orange et faire boire ene gros cuillere 2 -3 fois par jour.
Prend bien soin bann grand dimuon dans lacaze. Aider autant ki possib.
