Warrior Academy Brazilian Jiujitsu Team wins big at the Fuji BJJ Corvette Classic Championships
The Warrior Academy Brazilian Jiujitsu Team participated in the Fuji BJJ Corvette Classic Championships held at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, over the weekend of February 18 and 19, 2023. The team of eight put up an impressive showing and walked away with several medals.
Brazilian Jiujitsu is a martial art that incorporates elements of judo and wrestling. However, its primary focus is to catch opponents in a submission hold. Matches range from three to fifteen minutes depending on the skill level of the competitors. Matches can end in two ways: a competitor surrendering to a submission hold or by scoring points for various skills during the match. There are two types of matches: one that wears the traditional kimono-style uniform similar to judo and the other without the uniform, referred to as No-gi, which removes the grips and handles for each competitor and makes it a different game entirely.
The Warrior Academy Brazilian Jiujitsu Team's hard work and training paid off as they came away with an impressive haul of medals at the tournament.
Elizabeth Larkins, a 16-year-old weighing 126 pounds, won four medals - three gold and one silver.
Ryan Morseman, a 16-year-old weighing 229 pounds, took home three gold medals, one silver, and one bronze medal.
Elijah Davis, a 16-year-old weighing 168 pounds, won three gold medals, three silver medals, and three bronze medals.
Sarah Larkins, a 14-year-old weighing 129 pounds, took home two gold medals, three silver medals, and two bronze medals.
