Namdaemun Market started its operation during the reign of King Thai Tong, from 1414. By 1608, commercial activities there flourished with many trading shops established. However, after the Japan - Korea war, Namdaemun turned into ruins and burnt in 1953. The market was also continuously rebuilt and later built. By 2010, the market was rebuilt, improved and became one of the most attractive markets in the bustling capital of Seoul.
