ZAWAP SECRETARY GENERAL GABRIEL MUNYEMBE WRITES;
The conviction of Geofrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) must be viewed in a broader context that exposes the hypocrisy and selective justice of the UPND government. While the government trumpets its fight against corruption by convicting political opponents, it fails miserably to address the rampant corruption and money laundering within its own ranks. The latest Auditor General's report paints a grim picture of the misuse of public funds, implicating government officials and state agencies. Yet, these cases remain unprosecuted, swept under the rug in a manner that raises serious questions about the sincerity of the government's anti-corruption agenda.
It is deeply troubling that the UPND government is quick to secure convictions against opposition figures like GBM, while turning a blind eye to its own internal rot. This selective application of justice undermines the credibility of the legal system and fuels public distrust. The Zambian people deserve more than political theatrics; they deserve a government that will uphold transparency and accountability across the board, not one that uses the law as a weapon against its critics while shielding its allies.
The fight against corruption should not be a tool for political gain but a genuine commitment to restoring integrity in public service. The government’s failure to address the issues highlighted in the Auditor General’s report exposes its own complicity and lack of political will to tackle corruption at its core.
