40%? 50%? 80%?

While this research is from one collegiate program, it’s not far fetched to realize these mental health patterns are prevalent in ballet schools, companies, and collegiate programs around the country and around the world.

I used to think my ballet teacher could do no wrong and have no fault… 👀

Then as I grew through my teen years, I realized things weren’t adding up.

And as I mustered the courage to leave dance, the chaos that was imbedded in my brain because more clear.

I don’t believe ballet teachers have malicious intent necessarily, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a LOT of unlearning to do to find happiness as a teen or adult navigating the complexities of their relationship with dance.

There’s a lot to unlearn there 🙇🏻‍♀️

Mindfulness takes practice, just like fouettes. 💁🏻‍♀️

Are you allowing yourself to practice this new skill?

Shame, guilt, anger, frustration, sadness, and other negative emotions can get in the way when you’re trying to push your boundaries, get out of your comfort zone, and try something new…

…EVEN IF it’s something that is good for you!

What if you could honor alllll your emotions as they are? What would that look like for you? What if you could allow them to exist AND allow them move on? Kinda like letting go of an old grudge or moving past grief. Some cool ways to move through those emotions could be journaling, self reflection, or talking to a therapist.

What is your favorite or most reliable way to release negative/low-energy emotions? Tell me in the comments–it just might help someone else out too 💛

Hey friends! Long time no see 👋🏼

I’m SO excited to be back with the Dance Better Podcast team & will be taking over social media for the next several weeks while your podcast host and new mama Sarah Schiewer is on maternity leave 💛

Season two brought many new followers and new guests, so allow me to introduce myself! 🙋🏻‍♀️

My name is Courtney Ulrich 🩰 I’m a former preprofessional ballet dancer, current massage therapist, and Aroma Freedom practitioner.

If you’ve listened from the beginning of the podcast, you may recognize my voice from season one where I was a co-host with Sarah!

I have several ideas for what to post, but what do YOU want to see from this page as you lead off into the new school year???
