WA filmmakers take centre stage in the highly-anticipated 2023 WA Made Film Festival program reveal!

Now in its fourth year, the WA Made Film Festival will return in 2023 with an epic celebration of locally-made films including 14 feature films, 57 short films, one web series, two masterclasses, multiple filmmaker discussion panels, and 17 smartphone films made exclusively for the festival.

Running over ten days from Friday, 17 February until Sunday, 26 February, the 2023 WA Made Film Festival will be the biggest celebration of local screen culture that Western Australia has ever seen.

The 2023 WA Made Film Festival will open with the Perth premiere of Jub Clerc’s brilliant debut feature film, Sweet As. Nyul Nyul and Yawuru writer and director Jub Clerc is a highly-regarded WA filmmaker, and the festival plans to make its opening night as celebratory as possible with before and after-parties, food and drinks and an exciting Q&A.

Owning a business requires at least 2 different mindsets.

The Creator and The Operator.

If you own a bakery, you need someone who is an excellent baker that can make a scrumptious croissant.
You also need someone who can focus on the business operations; invoicing, pricing, staff rosters and all those other (not so) fun things.

A lot of business owners will try to play both of these roles by themselves. It can be a massive benefit to have a business partner that can take one of these roles and help the operations run smoothly.

On top of the general business operations, you also need to think about marketing as well, which essentially creates an entire 3rd role that is required to ensure your business thrives.

Having someone else that can take care of the other duties allows you to focus on your passions and give your customers/clients the best experience possible.

A fun look at some of the behind the scenes fun during our test recce for the Necrosis music video.

The weather on the test day was probably perfect. Too bad the weather gods didn't keep it around when it came time for the actual music video shoot. Instead we had to bring out the big guns and create some artificial sunset light for a portion of the shoot instead.

This is the alternative metal band behind Necrosis.

A group of talented young musicians from Perth that are already sweeping the WA music scene. These kids are definitely on the up and up and I am excited to see what they do in the future.

Their sound is hard rock, gritty and full of energy and you just can't help but get swept up into it.

A large portion of Australian small businesses start out as a hobby.

These hobbies can grow and start to gain a following. Many Australians turn their hobbies into a career as way to escape the trap of working for other organisations and instead seek independence and freedom.

What are some things you can do before you decide to go out on your own and start your own business?

1. Have the right mindset

Think about what business you want to start. Then start putting your plan in motion by breaking things down into numbers.
Is your product or service in demand?
Starting a business is a slow process for most and often takes a number of years to become fully self sufficient.

We often see new businesses that seem to gain overnight success and immediately become a huge hit. More often than not, there was a huge amount of work that went into that success. Hard work that may have spanned across many years.

2. Learn from other business owners

Start by reaching out to others that have had success in starting their own business. Learn what worked and didnt work for others and use this to help establish a good mindset.

Be patient and learn to build your business bit by bit as this will make it easier to handle any challenges that may arise.

3. Research and Plan Before you Launch

In film production, 70% if pre-production (planning), 20% is post-production (editing and final touches) and only 10% of the whole project is filming.
Starting a business should be similar, in that you should spend a significant amount of time planning your approach. Create a business and marketing plan, research your competitors, compare supplies etc.

Continue your current job for a period of time until your big idea is finally ready to launch.

Sometimes a photo shoot workout can be just as hard as a real workout.

Occasionally models will need to hold challenging poses to get the shot.
Sometimes I even enjoy making them hold the pose just a little bit longer... 😆

The main thing is that the photo shoot is fun. If everyone has enjoys the experience, it almost guarantees that the final result will look natural and authentic. This is key to getting great content that audiences will engage with.

Something that makes my content a little different during these fitness shoots is how I like capturing the smiles. Sure it's great to get a few serious shots of an athlete that is focused and serious about their workout regime, but it's also nice to see the fun, human side of things as well. 😊
