Look out, Vault Hunters, ‘cause the “Bombs of 2024” have “clapped” their way over to Pandora for the hot mess express that is... Borderlands! Based on the billion-dollar game series we all know and love (or, like, kinda tolerate), this movie decides to take everything that makes Borderlands epic—yes, I’m talkin’ guns, humor, awesome visuals—and toss it all in a dumpster fire! Hope you came for laughs? NOPE! Hoping for gun-toting, loot-lovin’ action? AS IF! How about jaw-dropping visuals? PSYCH!
But don’t worry! Not a Bomb is here to help you trudge through this nightmare. We’ve got the awesome Mike McGranaghan from “The Aisle Seat” joining in on the chaos. Can this movie offer anything to the fans? Or is it just another facepalm on Pandora? You’ll have to tune in to find out!

Wanted to share some pics from this weekend. Had a chance to go to 12th anniversary Urban Action Showcase and Expo in New York. Of course the highlight was seeing “The Last Dragon” with the cast and crew in a packed theater! Tabs and I also got to meet Taimak, Chris Murney, Mike Starr, Ron Van Clief, Fred “The Hammer” Williamson, and the amazing Gloria Hendry! Oh, we also got to see “The Matrix” in the world’s largest 4DX theater as well as a screening of “Black Belt Jones”. Have to say…probably the best movie going experience ever. All of this took place on 42nd street near Times Square. Big thanks to John Nance and his wife, Mia, for going along!

The entire premise of our little podcast has been to highlight the underseen and under appreciated films. The next two months, we are taking a look at films in 2024 that flew under the radar or bombed at the box office. We are kicking things off with a film that is definitely one of the best movies we’ve seen in 2024, “Last Stop in Yuma County.” has crafted one of the best neo-noir films in the last few decades. In fact, if you never listen to the podcast but go out to buy or watch this film, we’d be totally ok with that outcome! GO SEE THIS FILM! If you have time after, download the episode and hear us gush over this amazing work of art!

As spooky season kicks into gear, Troy and Brad dive into “The Exorcist: Believer,” the supernatural horror flick of 2023. Directed by David Gordon Green, this sixth entry in the “Exorcist” series treats horror fans like they’ve never seen a well-crafted scare. It’s mind-boggling how a movie can both rehash tired horror clichés and attempt to explore themes of faith with the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Simply put, this film is a disaster. Troy and Brad pull no punches, tearing apart its glaring flaws and expressing their outright disdain for Green’s direction. Save yourself the frustration—skip this misfire and opt for a horror film that respects the genre, your intelligence, and your time. Do, however, download the episode and listen!

Spooky season has arrived, and what’s more haunting than films that flopped at the box office? We’re kicking off Spooktober with Troy’s favorite actor, Tom Cruise, and his 2017 fantasy action-adventure The Mummy. Joined by frequent guest Sammy of the GGTMC, the crew gets “wrapped up” in a lively discussion. Troy quizzes the gang on their favorite Cruise movies (no shame here!), and they dive deep into some lesser-known gems from the actor’s career. Eventually, they unravel the mystery of The Mummy itself—packed with all the classic Tom Cruise charm. With a mere 15% on Rotten Tomatoes and the title of Cruise’s lowest-rated film, could The Mummy actually be “Not A Bomb”? Tune in and find out!

Sadly, Listener Request Month has reached its final full moon, but don’t worry—Troy and Brad are still howling with excitement for the last suggestion. Dedicated pack member Philip sank his fangs into Wolfen, a horror crime thriller often mistaken for a werewolf flick. But surprise—Wolfen is more of a police procedural than a howling night of lycanthropic mayhem. The guys sniff out why Wolfen didn’t quite sink its claws into audiences, bask in the coolness of Gregory Hines, and even sink their teeth into 10 horror films they’re gearing up to devour in October.

Listener Request Month takes a little pause as the guys gather in the same room to record a special episode with Jose and Alex from . To celebrate this momentous occasion, there was only one film that could do it justice: The Substance. Equal parts Cronenberg and Showgirls, The Substance stands apart from anything previously covered on the podcast—and with its current box office flop, it’s officially podcast-worthy. The hosts also dive into their favorite finds from Baltimore Comic-Con and share thoughts on the movies they’ve been watching lately. So, grab a seat, relax, and tune in for conversations about fame, body image, chewing sounds, and the ever-debated pronunciation of Demi Moore’s name.

• Digital Download of the VERY FIRST thing I ever animated: The original "2164" scene. Since my animation skills improved over time, after I completed the movie, I went back and upgraded and smoothed out the animation in this scene and the other early scenes so that the would fit in with the rest of the movie. But here in its original form you'll see just how much more clunky the animation originally was when I first started out. In fact, the scene with the man being turned into a soldier is literally the first thing I ever animated. You'll also see how much more overtly political the movie was originally going to be!

***DIGITAL ASSETS WILL BE EMAILED OUT STARTING

Had a really fun time chatting with the guys on the "Not a Bomb" podcast last week! This one's audio only, and somewhere toward the end (if memory serves) I actually add a bit of a sneak peak at what I'm working on for the upcoming vinyl pre-order at some point toward the end!

It opens with a clip of a cool old Bowie interview that's very fitting considering what he talks about in the clip.

Check it out here: https://www.notabombpodcast.com/nabpodccast/bonus-episode-death-of-a-rockstar-amp-interview-with-rocket-stahr

Get ready for an electrifying bonus episode of Not A Bomb! This time, the guys dive into an epic conversation with the multi-talented Rocket Stahr, who’s not just a writer, director, editor, animator, and composer but also the creative genius behind the mind-blowing 13-year passion project, Death of a Rockstar. Imagine the psychedelic wonder of Yellow Submarine colliding with the campy charm of Rocky Horror Picture Show, mixed with the rock opera spectacle of Tommy and the grandiosity of Jesus Christ Superstar. This vibrant, audacious film is a thrilling love letter to classic rock ‘n’ roll and 20th-century American pop culture, and it’s an experience you absolutely need to see to believe!

This week, we embarked on an unforgettable journey with our trusty companions, Troy and Brad, and a special guest—none other than John from the YouTube channel - And Now For Something A Little Bit Different. Our destination? The wild, unpredictable world of 2004’s notorious comedy, EuroTrip.

As we journeyed through the ups and downs of this cinematic adventure, we couldn’t help but long for the familiar laughs of s*x comedy classics like American Pie and Porky’s. Poor Scotty didn’t know, or perhaps just wasn’t prepared, for the disdain some of us would harbor for this merry jaunt through various European locales, led by four of the dullest characters ever to grace the screen. Yet, amid the chuckles and eye-rolls, a lone defender rose to the occasion, ready to champion this so-called “gem.” It was a whirlwind of emotions as we explored this quirky piece of film history, and trust us - you won’t want to miss out on this hilarious and slightly painful ride!
