𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁
This arts platform has launched a virtual exhibition that celebrates the life and art of world-renowned Italian artist Raffaello Sanzio, also known as Raphael. To mark the 500th anniversary of his death, Raphael’s most significant works from the Vatican Museums, Louvre, Villa Borghese and the Uffizi Gallery, among others, have been uploaded for maximum convenience and viewing pleasure! Side note: Raphael loved Margarita Luti who also modelled for him. Even though very little is known of her life, Margarita and Raphael’s love story is said to have inspired the archetypal artist-model relationship of the 20th and 21st century.

Does art imitate life or does life imitate art? We might as well find the answer at the Natural History Museum. Next to Wildlife Photographer of the Year images which are truly worth their accolades, the museum offers self-guided virtual tours of all of its exhibitions. Our favourite, though, has to be the interactive show room about Hope the blue whale that includes guided audio by David Attenborough!

T𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻

“The journey of a woman with a good bra, juice boxes and a rose quartz in her pocket.

Have you ever looked at a photograph and wondered what was happening at the very moment it was captured? Who was the person? What was their life like? What secrets were hidden behind their eyes? I had this very experience myself while looking at an old image of myself taken almost 11 years ago.

There, staring back at me was a woman who, at that time, had no idea what life would bring her, what places her emotions would take her. In my hands was an image of one kickass lady who just didn’t know what was about to unfold. The many adventures, many hilarious moments that were about to arrive.

Hang tight, dear reader, as I offer a snapshot of big love to a woman so deserving of it.

To truly embrace one’s life journey, I mean really love it...I believe that takes vulnerability, bravery and most of all an amazing sense of humor. I get that we all have that moment where we envision a life of wonder, security, one true love and possibly some wee ones to complete it all. Maybe it does end up that way or maybe it doesn’t.

For me, well, let's just say that the ascent to the” journey woman” is still an ongoing one.
No matter how many books I have read or movies I’ve watched, they have never included how we live our lives mentally. They have never discussed the highs, and lows, twists and turns our mental thinking could take us through. What they have shown are the scripted roles of marriage, children, and our roles as women and men. Where were the guide books on when everything falls apart? When partnerships come to an end? When our anxiety and mental wellness are never considered a priority over these preassigned roles? Where does it say to love the very being that is us.”

Even though for the full experience, you’d have to visit this 20th century modern art museum, Museo Reina Sofia boasts an impressive array of virtual features including videos, podcasts and exhibition audio tours. Why we love the museum so much is that it pushes beyond the conventional limits of what a museum is and does and actively engages in social dialogue. Our latest favourite clip introduces the work of the 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲, an education project aiming to shed light on different expressions of s*x and gender in school instituions.

𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 (𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻, 𝗨𝗞)
The gallery allows for virtual walks through its extensive collection of paintings, prints sculptures and drawings. Its remarkable artwork dates all the way back to the Middle Ages. There are also many iconic 20th century pieces to fall in love with. It doesn’t beat the real thing, but we loved seeing classics such as Degas’ Two Dancers on a Stage, Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergere and Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear.

, this group of friends from London originally comprises two (actual) chefs and three amateur home cooks. Jamie, Barry, Ben, Mike and James are perhaps best known for their Youtube channel where they test out ingredients and recipes, and have relay races to finish one single dish. Overall, they are focusing on making everyday cooking more fun and attainable for people who think they can't cook!

This week’s first Words of Love are a poignant and sarcastic confession of the steps of discovering and experiencing love throughout the authors’s life.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀

“I was 4, about to turn 5 when I first fell in childlike wonder with a boy twice my senior. We sang Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called To Say I Love You” in class together and I was smitten. That’s when I learnt that Stevie Wonder turns my brain into “happy goo”.
I was 10 when our neighbours and their incredibly fluffy dog moved out. I was sad until 11-year-old Zac moved in. That’s when I learnt that life takes, but it also gives. And then Zac moved away. Life does everything on repeat.
I was 15 when I fell in love with sushi. It was just a happy coincidence that on the other end of that sushi platter was a boy that I was also completely besotted with and willing to impress by eating raw fish. He kissed me in front of the women’s toilet because we had both been too shy for any PDA at the table. Later on, I realised that people might come and go, but sushi is forever.
I was 19, about to turn 20 when I completely lost my mind. He was as in love with me as I was with him. He was my centre of gravity and I his. That is until I realised that I was the other woman. That’s when I learnt that you can’t have your cake and eat it, too. Also, I’m not a cake (nor the other woman).”

Since it’s summer time in Europe, the L’AMOUR POUR TOUS team have been on holidays. We haven’t been as active on Instagram lately, but we have still made sure to share content with you daily. During our free time, we have been cooking a lot. Yes 🙈 we have been trying different dishes and having fun in the kitchen. To paraphrase a famous saying, the way to almost anyone’s heart is through their stomach. If food is life and life is love, then food is love, too. Love redefined: my three brothers

“ I have always believed that love in its purest definition is what binds a couple, a man and a woman, or two people of the same s*x, in romantic relationships. This was my idea of life, probably due to my upbringing, and perhaps the idealisation of love in my mind. Strangely enough, it was by marrying my dearest beloved, in the difficult context of the pandemic, that a lot of things changed in the way that I now define love.
I now realise that love is everywhere, in each of us, in the attention and gifts we give, in every little moment we spend together. Be that with our soulmate, with our children, but also with our parents, our brothers and sisters, our friends. Even with relatives who we thought were more distant, but who turn out to be people who, through their actions and affections, bring us love.
My story of love dates back 60 years before we were all born. I do not know how to define the friendship and the love that I have for the three brothers whom I consider to be my three brothers, too. My grandfather was very good friends with their grandfather. My dad was and still is very good friends with their dad. Our friendship naturally grew from there. It is a real Family story, with a capital F!
From the age of 5 until today, 26 years later, I have so many memories of mischief. Frenzied football games in their garden. FIFA video game tournaments until 6 am. Holidays spent together everywhere in France. Endless tarot/poker games. Pokémon tournaments that punctuated our ski weeks. Road trips in the United States. Good meals around good bottles. Intimate and tender moments shared with our respective children. In short, all these moments, strong, intense, so unique and so strong have forged this tenderness and affection that I have carried with me through time and carry with me still today.”

From math genius to Olympic gold winner!
Anna Kiesenhofer might not have been a household name next to cycling powerhouses, but she sure is one now. The Austrian cyclist bagged a gold medal in Women’s Road Cycling shocking everyone, including herself. Kiesenhofer turned to cycling after running injurie made it impossible for her to continue competing in triathlons. What’s even more impressive, she only went pro in cycling in 2017.

She dares to be different and go after what she wants, even if that means going totally independent and planning her own Olympic workouts!

Philippines’s Hidilyn Diaz wins the country its first gold medal (in any sport ever)
Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz made history (or should we call it HERstory) when winning the women’s 55 kg. What makes this win even more spectacular is the true grit and perseverance that Diaz showed ahead of the competition. She had been training away from her loved ones due to the pandemic for more than a year!

Rayssa Leal secures her spot in our hearts
Rayssa Leal was only 7 years old when Tony Hawk’s tweet made a video of her skating go viral. Nicknamed the Skateboarding Fairy, now 13, Leal took home silver at the Women’s Street Skateboarding Olympic Event, becoming the youngest Brazilian in history to win an Olympic medal.

Why do we love Rayssa?
She has true sportsmanship! After winning silver, she rushed over to Momiji Nshiya to congratulate her for winning gold. Check our blog to watch the video.

Two people meet, fall in love, grow together, grow apart, grow up.
The plot, like the Sally Rooney book it's based on, sheds light on class and power and powerlessness. These themes are present inside the budding relationship of the two main characters as well as in the dynamics between their friends, at university, in society at large.

We love the nostalgic vignette-style shots that make it seem as if we’re looking at someone’s actual memories instead of watching a TV show.

S*x Education (Netflix)
Season 3 premiers on 17 September

Set in a British high school, the show follows the lives of an awkward teenage boy Otis and his mother who just happens to be a s*x therapist. Season 1 starts with Otis teaming up with a girl from school, Maeve, to charge students for s*x advice despite never having had s*x himself. And, season 2 somehow tops that! Hilariously funny and binge-worthy as well as relatable and informative. Dare we say it, Netflix has created a masterpiece.

We love that the show goes beyond raunchy s*x scenes and addresses the emotional side of s*x so oft’ neglected.

“Our love story started around August 2009.

R (name redacted) and I were high school students, starting 11th grade. We didn't really know each other. R was the loud one, always-laughing-with-his-friends kind of guy. I, on the other hand, was the new girl. One day during class, he started joking with me, and I have to say, I laughed so hard. Not so coincidentally, I also noticed how attractive this guy actually looked.
This joke was the starting point of our interaction, and we soon discovered that we had a lot in common, even though he is French-Mexican, and I am from Belgium. We both lived in Houston at that time, because of our dads’ work. On September 25th 2009, during a Saturday night party, after one month of flirting with each other, we finally kissed. Not being sure what this kiss meant, I asked him how he would greet me on Monday morning at school…
He responded that he would kiss me again, and we easily transitioned into typical “high school sweethearts”. We would see each other during breaks everyday, and summers without him were long… Our love story felt so real. We would talk about our future together and how that would happen very soon. We felt so much for each other.
Then, June 2011 arrived. After living the best year of our lives, our senior year (prom, graduation, ...), the time to leave for university arrived. He left for Montreal, and I was going back to Belgium. I felt like my world had collapsed. Literally. We decided to separate, to live our own lives, and it just felt horrible.

We kept in contact, of course, as it was impossible to just end this two-year relationship and stop talking from one day to another. But it was hard. Social media at that time did not help, as I would feel my whole body burning whenever he would be tagged in Facebook pictures, or I would see him in other girls’ posts. It was so hard that I decided to block him from social media, and started dating a Belgian guy that was interested in me.”

If you’re looking for a modern workplace riddled with double standards and backstabbing, look no further. The Morning Show takes a close look at the behind-the-scenes of a US TV station and the early morning news anchors and staff working for the titular Morning Show. As one of the two news anchors of the the morning special faces charges of s*xual assault, the fate of the show and the station is left teetering.

Summer’s here! This means more time to soak up the sun. It also means more time to binge-watch all our favourite shows. Next to summer reality TV classics such as Love Island, here’s what we’re loving and wanting more of!

𝘌𝘶𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘢 (𝘏𝘉𝘖 𝘔𝘢𝘹)
Season 2 in the works

Loosely based on the Israeli television mini series of the same name, Euphoria follows a group of teenagers as they navigate an anxious, substance-riddled existence. Although the mould of high school stereotypes and anti-stereotypes remains the same, Euphoria handles more mature topics than a run-of-the-mill teen drama, making it arguably the best social commentary of modern day US high schools. The show does come with a warning, as it might be triggering for some.

We love that the show is gaining more recognition; Playing 17-year-old recovering addict Rue earned Zendaya her first Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2020.

𝗔 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆

“Love is a word that takes on its full meaning at the heart of this sincere and wonderful friendship that starts in 1997. In the north of France, in Villeneuve d´Ascq, two girls Sylvie and Véronique meet and strike up a friendship that lasts for 20 years.

I consider it my life’s gift to have met this funny and energetic girl. Sylvie was a woman with a strong character, an artist, who had fought with determination since the age of 8 against diabetes. Insulin dependent, she received a daily dose of life that allowed her to laugh and to carry out projects.

As years went by, she received a kidney transplant and then a pancreas transplant, so she could enjoy sugar and other pleasures of life to the fullest (her husband Pierre was a dentist, such a lucky girl), and I could share all of these moments of happiness with her.
We made the most of this state of grace as we realised that happiness is within our reach, we just had to reach out and there it was in the palm of our hand.

When I left the north of France, our friendship continued to grow. The phone rang like every week and another chapter of our story began. Sylvie had been diagnosed with breast cancer ... but the Sylvie that I knew was fighting despite her fatigue because she wanted to live again and again. And, I didn't want to let her go.

I stood by her during the hard times and made sure to be there for her to enjoy the good times, too. French philosopher Henri Bergson has said: "The future is not what will happen but what we will make happen." In similar fashion, we continued our journey...”

In his powerful presentation, Jackson Katz addresses the violence that women face and how we’ve been made to think of domestic abuse and s*xual assault as “women’s issues”. Spoiler alert: they’re not. Any type of violence against anyone is everyone’s issue, that includes men.

“That late Friday afternoon, on 29 April, 1960, in the middle of nowhere, she saw him running. She had never seen him before, because just four days before she had still lived abroad, outside Portugal. However, when she passed by him, she greeted him:
- Hi! Good evening!
- Good afternoon. Do we know each other?
- No, but I think you are my uncle's godson… (I stammered)
- Ah, yes I am! And you are my godmother's granddaughter, aren't you? Look, I was going to take that bus that brought you here, but, as you see, I’ve just missed it. Now I have to go on foot. I am going to a family wedding party, but on Sunday, I will visit your grandmother.

It was with this simplicity that I met my husband. I knew immediately that I wanted that man to be the father of my children. It was also with this definite certainty that I saw my future life.

Our love did not lay on top a bed of roses, because 5 months later in September I returned to Angola and he stayed in Portugal to finish his studies. We only met again on January 10, 1962, two years later, when he arrived in Luanda to do his internship at the Angola Cotton Institute in Catete. But during those years apart, we wrote to each other, two or three letters each day. Never ever was there a day when we didn't write or receive a letter, a postcard, an aerogram.

We married on 7 March, 1963, a Thursday, in the poor little church of the São Paulo Mission. We were married by an alleged power of attorney, in which my father took my fiance's place with very little pleasure, at three o'clock on a day when it was raining African style: more than copiously!”

There is some good stuff to be found on TED Talks, from interviews to presentations to full playlists dedicated to specific topics. This week video selection has made us vigorously nod along in the hope that the whole world will soon nod back.

In this TED interview, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi talk about the Black Lives Matter Network that they set up in 2013. Today, Black Lives Matter is more than a network. It is a movement aiming to undo racial injustice and dismantle systemic racism.

𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸

“Staying at home to take care of your children was once considered the best job in the world. Taking care of your whole family, giving without expecting something in return, is still a full-time job, however, not everyone thinks like that.
For some mums, it is a well thought out decision and they fully embrace their role, leaving it to their partner to bring home the money. However, others mums might find staying at home extremely difficult to get used to it, or rather, to justify. Indeed, society puts so much pressure on the value of work and the same questions and opinions are shared over and over again: “What do stay-at-home mums do all day? They must be bored.”
Let me answer this.

I am a woman who does many things without ever getting paid for it. I, too, work. If you take a closer look you might see a cook, a nurse, a doctor sometimes, a teacher, a driver and even a cleaner…. What would my income be, if I actually got paid to perform these fundamental tasks for a family?! Way too often stay-at-home mums need to justify their decisions, when they shouldn't have to.

I wanted to share a situation that I found myself in which left a bitter taste in my mouth.

I was over at a friends’ house having dinner when on of the guests expressed his opinion on how stupid stay-at-home mums are and if they already aren’t, they’ll surely become stupid, sitting around the house. My heart skipped a beat when I heard this person’s despicable words. Around the table no one dared to speak up, not even his wife that had recently decided to quit her professional career and stay home to take care of their family.

So, I waited a few minutes before retorting: “Do you work, Sir?” He looked at me with big eyes and puffed his chest out: “Of course I work.” I looked at him with the biggest smile and gave him a simple and straight to the point answer: “Well, you are living proof that one can work, but still be an idiot.”
An icy blast straight from Siberia cut across the dining room and made everyone stop eating their slices of delicious chocolate cake. Oops!”
