A 27-year-old woman is facing additional charges in connection with a fatal crash in Warren.

According to authorities, police were called to the intersection of Mound and Chicago roads on Dec. 21, on reports of a crash involving a Ford Escape and a Chevrolet Silverado. When an officer approached the Escape, it was reportedly empty. Witnesses directed the officer to a woman on the sidewalk, claiming she was the driver and was drunk.

When the officer approached the woman to check for injuries, she reportedly resisted and bit the officer.

The driver of the Silverado — identified as 69-year-old Christopher Andelean — died from his injuries in the crash.

Diamond Leann Glenn, a resident of Harrison Township, was taken into custody and was initially charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer. Her bond was set at $100,000 cash.

After the Warren Police Department finished its investigation, Glenn was charged Thursday, Jan. 9, with second-degree murder and attempted failure to stop at the scene resulting in death. Her bond was raised to $500,000.

Glenn’s probable cause hearing is set for Jan. 23.

A Michigan woman who sold her vehicle on New Year’s Day for several thousand dollars soon learned she’d been duped — the money the buyer gave her was bogus.

The man accused of scamming the woman with the counterfeit cash, himself in the U.S. illegally, is facing two felonies.
About 10:15 p.m. on Jan. 1, a Harrison woman met with Clare County Sheriff’s deputies to report a theft. She told them she’d listed her 2015 GMC Terrain for sale on Facebook Marketplace, eliciting a response from a man. The seller and prospective buyer agreed to meet at the woman’s home.
The man met with the woman and gave her $3,600 in $100 bills, then drove away with the vehicle, deputies said. Shortly thereafter, the woman went to a gas station to make a purchase and a clerk used a counterfeit-detecting pen on some of the bills, determining they were fraudulent, deputies said.

The woman who sold the Terrain tried contacting the buyer but he had deactivated his account, deputies said.

Deputies confirmed all 36 of the $100 bills were bogus. They alerted police across the state to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle.

The next day, police spotted the Terrain driving in Three Rivers, within the Indiana-bordering St. Joseph County. Three Rivers is about 190 miles from Harrison.

Three Rivers police pulled over the vehicle and arrested its passenger, 36-year-old Victor J. Telleria-Sanchez, believing he was the person who passed the counterfeit bills.

Police further determined Telleria-Sanchez was a non-American citizen who was in the country illegally. He would not speak with law enforcement or state his country of origin, deputies confirmed.

Text messages between Jarvis Butts and Na’Ziyah Harris were read in court Thursday.

Butts faces multiple felonies in the death of Harris, a J. E. Clark Preparatory Academy student who went missing in January. While her body has not been recovered, police said there is an “overwhelming” amount of evidence that Butts murdered Harris.

A preliminary examination hearing to decide if Butts will stand trial for the murder of Harris began on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025. The days-long hearing continued into Thursday, with dozens of witnesses testifying.

Background

Prosecutors said Butts was supposed to turn himself in to authorities on a gun charge on Jan. 9, 2024, the day Harris went missing, but that date was pushed back to February. Harris allegedly met up with Butts that day, and the two reportedly went to Ypsilanti before returning back to Detroit, where Butts checked into a motel.

Text records allege that Butts knew Harris was pregnant and that he began searching online about abortions, abortion pills, and drinking red anti-freeze.

Authorities believe Butts had been sexually abusing Harris since 2022 before killing her in January 2024. Prosecutors said he had a history of targeting and befriending women to get close to and sexually abuse their daughters.

It’s not the only sexual abuse case Butts is involved with. He also has been charged for reportedly sexually abusing two other young girls, as well as a conviction for sexual assault in 2005. Prosecutors called Butts a “serial child rapist,” who sexually assaulted an 8-year-old family member and a girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter, who reportedly caught chlamydia from the assault.

He was charged on Sept. 27, 2024, as a habitual fourth-time offender.

A Roseville man was charged Thursday with lying to police investigating the disappearance of a Warren mother of two, officials said.

DeAndre Howard Booker, 32, was arraigned through 39th District Court in Roseville on a charge of lying to police officers, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement.

A judge set Booker’s bond at $250,000 and scheduled a probable cause conference for Jan. 22. She also ordered Booker to wear a GPS tether if he posts bond.

If convicted of the charge, he faces up to four years in prison.

Court records did not list an attorney for Booker on Thursday.

Authorities allege Booker repeatedly lied to police officers from Jan. 4-7and willfully provided false and misleading information in their investigation into the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Lashay Elkins, 30.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing.

Elkins was reported missing on Jan. 3. Police said her family hadn’t seen or heard from her since she left her home in southwestern Warren the previous morning to run errands.

Her silver Chevy Malibu was found in the area of 13 Mile and Little Mack in Roseville.

On Tuesday, Roseville and Warren police executed a search warrant at Booker’s home at the Hampton Court Apartments in Roseville, authorities said.

They said they recovered “significant evidence,” including forensics, which will be analyzed by the Michigan State Police, according to a statement from the Roseville and Warren police departments.

A trash dumpster from the Hampton Court Apartments was seized for investigative and evidentiary purposes, police said.

Family members said Elkins is a mother of two who works out of her home as a hairstylist, according to media reports. They said Elkins’ ex-boyfriend tried to visit her home after falsely claiming to be a client and making an appointment days before she went missing.

Elkins is described as a Black female, about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts or the case should call Roseville Police Department Det. Matthew Lesperance at (586) 447-4505

(News & Information Only) Jarvis Butts is accused of murdering and sexually assaulting 13-year-old Na’Ziyah Harris, who went missing on Jan. 9, 2024

It’s been one year since 13-year-old Na’Ziyah Harris went missing. Thursday is expected to be the final day of a hearing to decide if there is enough evidence for the trial of a man accused of killing the Detroit teen.

Jarvis Butts faces multiple felonies in the suspected death of Harris.

On Jan. 8, 2025, a Detroit Police Department sergeant testified that the last person she contacted before going missing was Butts. She also testified Butts called his business partner while he was in jail to move a phone he allegedly hid in a car.

Testimonies are expected to resume on Jan. 9, 2025, at 10 a.m.

WARREN (WWJ) - Warren and Roseville police officials say they are “actively pursuing numerous leads” as they continue to investigate the disappearance Ashley Elkins.

The 30-year-old hair stylist and mother of two from Warren was last seen leaving her home around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2 to run errands. She was reported missing the following day.

Preliminary indications suggested that Elkins may have been at an apartment within the Hampton Court Apartments in Roseville, where her ex-boyfriend lives, police officials from Warren and Roseville said in a joint press release Wednesday.

On Tuesday, authorities “determined that there was a strong possibility of foul play involved in this incident,” likely occurring at Hampton Court. That led to a search at the ex-boyfriend’s apartment and the Roseville Police Department taking the lead on the investigation.

Authorities searched his apartment - reportedly the last place her phone pinged - on Tuesday, as well as a dumpster at the complex that was ultimately seized by police.

During Tuesday’s search, officials say they found “significant evidence,” including forensics, which will be further analyzed by the Michigan State Police.

Elkins’s car, a silver Chevy Malibu, was recovered Tuesday night in the area of 13 Mile and Little Mack, according to police.

To date, the Warren Police Department has executed nearly 20 search warrants, conducted comprehensive video canvasses, examined numerous pieces of digital evidence and conducted numerous interviews with friends and family members, officials said. The Roseville Police Department has also “dedicated numerous resources to this very important investigation,” officials said.

Elkins’s current boyfriend told WWJ Newsradio’s 950 on Tuesday that her ex-boyfriend tried to book a hair appointment at her home salon on New Year’s Eve, but when he showed up and knocked on the door, she didn’t answer.

Two days later she was reported missing and her family has been frantically searching for answers. Her current boyfriend said he believes Elkins’s ex may have been stalking her.

A 21-year-old Detroit man shot multiple times at a Warren home with people inside, twice on Jan. 5 and 6. A reserve Highland Park police officer lives at the home, but was not injured. Dashaun Lewis is facing a long list of felony charges including attempted murder.

A Detroit man is charged with opening fire at a police officer’s Warren house twice - only hours apart.

Dashaun Lewis allegedly stood outside the home of a reserve Highland Park police officer and shot at the residence five times on Jan. 5. The gunfire damaged the house and the victim’s vehicle.

A few hours later in the early morning of Jan. 6, Lewis came back to the residence and allegedly shot at two victims standing outside of the house and at the house again.

Three people were at the house at the time of the second shooting but were not injured. Lewis fled, but was located by Warren police which deployed a drone, a few blocks away.

Lewis, 21, was charged with 10 felonies including attempted murder in the second shooting incident.

“These allegations are extremely serious and deeply concerning. This brazen act of violence not only caused significant property damage but also put the safety of the entire community at risk,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “Such actions cannot be tolerated, and we will pursue justice to ensure the safety and security of all our residents.”

In the first batch of four counts for the Jan. 5 shooting, he was arraigned with a set bond at $300,000.00 cash/surety. Upon release the defendant is to wear a GPS tether, have no contact with any of the victims or witnesses, and no possession of any fi****ms.

In the latter group of six counts he was arraigned with a set bond at $600,000.00 cash/surety. Upon release the defendant is to wear a GPS tether, have no contact with any of the victims or witnesses, and no possession of any fi****ms.

The family of a missing mother from Macomb County said they received strange texts from her on the day she disappeared.

What we know: Search continues for missing Macomb County mother as police recover car in Roseville

Ashley Elkins was last seen by her family leaving her home in Warren on Jan. 2.

Her family said they received sporadic and odd texts from the mother of two on that day.

Elkin’s mother, Monika Elkins, arrived at her daughter’s home at about 8:45 a.m., roughly 10 minutes after she left. About 15 minutes later, Monika Elkins sent her daughter a text.

She said she had been meaning to tell Ashley Elkins about a dream she had about her. In the dream, Ashley came and took her mom’s truck and left her car in the driveway, but when Monika checked, the car was gone. It was later found in the dream in a grassy area with the trunk and hood open.

Monika said when she finally shared the dream with Ashley, her daughter responded, “Awe, man.”

She allegedly replied almost immediately. Monika tried to call her daughter after her reply, but Ashley didn’t answer.

Hours later, another family member said they received a text from Ashley saying she was going to a specific beauty supply store. Her phone was then turned off and then turned back on, but the family said they hadn’t heard from her since.

According to her phone, her last known location was at her ex-boyfriend’s residence, an apartment complex near the intersection of Pinehurst Street and 10 Mile Road in Roseville.

The apartment is currently being treated as a crime scene by police.

Anyone who has seen Ashley Elkins or has any information is asked to contact the Roseville Police Department at 586-775-2100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP

Week 18’s Sunday night matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions could very well be the best in NFL regular-season history, featuring two teams with 14-2 records — the most combined wins in a non-playoff game.

With a No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs and a first-round bye at stake, the Vikings are spending considerable resources to make sure they have strong fan representation at Detroit’s Ford Field. To be exact, the team has spent nearly $2 million.

Leading up to Sunday’s game, the Vikings purchased approximately 1,900 tickets at the Lions’ home stadium on the secondary market at around $1,000 per ticket, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. The team then offered its season ticket-holders an opportunity via email to buy the seats at a much lower price — some of them for as low as $200 per ticket.

Apple has agreed to a $95 million settlement with users whose conversations were inadvertently captured by its Siri voice assistant and potentially overheard by human employees. The proposed settlement, reported by Bloomberg, could pay many US-based Apple product owners up to $20 per device for up to five Siri-enabled devices. It still requires approval by a judge.
If approved, the settlement would apply to a subset of US-based people who owned or bought a Siri-enabled iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch, or Apple TV between September 17th, 2014 and December 31st, 2024. A user would also need to meet one other major criteria: they must swear under oath that they accidentally activated Siri during a conversation intended to be confidential or private.
Individual payouts will depend on how many people claim the money, so if you apply, you could end up receiving less than the $20 maximum cap.

Authorities are trying to identify human remains discovered near the site of an annual music festival in northern Michigan , the same area where a Detroit -area man disappeared while attending the event in 2018.
“A positive identification of the remains cannot be made at this time pending autopsy results and further investigation,” state police said on X.

Investigators were sent Monday to a wooded area near Rothbury in Oceana County, site of the popular Electric Forest music festival. Forensic anthropologists from Western Michigan University also joined the effort.

State police have not offered an update since Tuesday.

Kevin Graves, 28, was last seen at Electric Forest in 2018. A woman who attended the festival with him told police he was acting “odd all week.” Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sgt. David Bach previously told MLive that he had been acting paranoid, fighting with his girlfriend, accusing her of calling the FBI on him and having a sexual relationship with another friend who attended the festival.
He eventually returned to his tent, but by time his girlfriend went there to find him, he was gone, according to WoodTV.

Police at the time searched with dogs and dozens of volunteers, while divers checked area lakes.

Police notified Gary Graves, Kevin’s father, after the remains were found.

“I am waiting to hear for sure what they found,” Gary told FOX 17 Tuesday afternoon.

Gary and the rest of the Graves family have been tirelessly trying to locate their son ever since he was last seen in 2018, attending the festival every year to hand out missing persons flyers. In 2023, they even paid to have a billboard put up near the festival entrance with his details on.

As the new year begins, minimum wage workers in Michigan can expect higher paychecks, as reported by WXYZ-TV. The state’s minimum wage has risen by 20%.

Under the new law, which took effect at the start of the year, the minimum hourly rate increased from $10.33 to $10.56. It is set to rise further to $12.48 on February 21st.

Additionally, servers and bartenders, who typically earn a lower base wage supplemented by tips, will also see gradual increases in their hourly pay. The law aims to align their wages with the standard minimum wage over the coming years.
