莫高窟第35窟中的“手托日月的十一面观音菩萨”中，菩萨左、右上手分别托着太阳和月亮。细看菩萨手中的日月，里面竟大有天地——左手的太阳描绘着一只三组金鸟，右手中的月亮，清晰的描绘着玉兔、桂树和金蟾。
