Instead of a post this week I'll go for a . I had an amazing weekend at the Warhammer World matched play GT last weekend. They were the first big events I ever attended and are still my favourite. A stretch hobby goal of mine has been to get a painting award at one of these events as in experience the competition is fierce. I took a drukhari list filled with my best painted units and made to show off the factions diverse aesthetic range.

Long story short, I took home best painted as voted by the attendees AND as I was there I thought I may as well win the bloody event. So in true Archonic fashion I took home both top prizes. I am one happy Archon, all the loots are mine.

To achieve even one of these two goals would have been huge for me but you take home both is beyond real. That you to all who voted for me in the painting award and to all my opponents for our games, particularly for our super cagey mirror.

Going to take a bit of a break from events but I'll be back at it again later in the year and maybe bring home more gold for my trophy Wracks.

Project "Beasts of Fenris" is finished and ready for raiding realspace. This unit has been great fun to work on and customise around a specific theme. Taking inspiration from the book "Lukas the Trickster", my beast master has been raiding the infamous deathworld of Fenris to capture dangerous beasts for him to set loose in the arenas of the dark city and feast on hapless Mon Keigh.

I'm going to work on some more beast pack units soon and theme each unit around a different deathworld or species. I've heard Catachan is lovely this time of year.....

this week sees me continuing my Beasts of fenris project. A beastmaster unit themed around one of the deadliest worlds in the imperium. Inspired by the events of the brilliant book Lukas the trickster, my beastmaster has clearly been to Fenris and captured more than mere wolf skulls and fenrisian talismans.

Realspace Raid Report. Another successful raid for me this weekend. Attending the local War at the Westward event hosted by the amazing guys at cross-swords. Thanks for another fun event.

I took a coven heavy force again, 6 talos, 3 cronos, 15wracks, all led by the master of flesh himself Urien Rakarth. I backed this up with a couple of ravagers and scourge, mandrakes and some kabalites in transports. All in all the list worked much better than I thought it would and I really enjoyed certain parts of it. Sadly my talos didn't shine in this tournament acting at best as a chunk of meat to be carved through before getting to my guns.

I played a great mix of opponents and some over never played before which was great. Thank you to all my opponents. I managed to win my first 4 games before deservingly losing to sisters in the final piloted by Aiden of team who had obviously been getting tips from my fellow Archon . Congratulations to Aiden for winning his first GT, and I'm sure he will continue to take home the gold.

I really felt a difference in this event, I've not played for over 2 months and I was definitely out of practice but my main mission was to enjoy myself as much as I could and not stress about things. Some of you may notice the scores were low on most of my games and that was because the score didn't really matter as pairings were random in bracket and placings were based on SoS so in those games where it became obvious who was going to win it was just easier to call the game and chill out for a bit before the next game. I actually really enjoyed that, means a lot less micro managing to maximise points fighting for position. A win is a win and then it just goes to how well your opponents do all of which is outside your influence so cannot be changed. Much less stressful.

Flame on for this week. After a disappointing reveal last weekend when a rumoured shadowy denizen of Aelindrach was teased and not given I decided to go back to my conversions.

It's , the build phase of project ghost riders is over, finally time to start painting and what better way is there than to start on my favourite drukhari model and the main reason I started collecting them back in 2010.

Reaver jetbikes have always been an iconic drukhari unit. Some of the fastest units in the entire game, they epitomize lightning strikes. They seem to change functions with every codex ranging from a fast MSU scout unit designed to score objectives or move block key enemy units. Previous incarnations had seen them as really hammer units, able to fly over or charge and do colossal damage with their cluster caltrops.

In project ghost rider I aim to make use of their heat lances and use them as fast moving harassment flankers.

The build phase is finally over. Next is the painting phase. Off for my holidays this week but back on it next week. Can't wait to finish this 50 Shades of Fate army list. An Ynnari force composed of all the jetbikes, Yvraine and my favourite model The Yncarne. Because it will look incredible on the board. I love thematic lists still much. Who agrees with me that the perfect list combines an awesome theme with a competitive edge?

Realspace Raid Report....

This weekend I orchestrated a Realspace Raid at the Big Bugle Bash. first 2 day GT. As usual it was perfectly run in a brilliant venue with great terrain and everyone had a laugh even in the muggy heat.

This event was pre balance dataslate so I was using old points for drukhari, even if I weren't my list had only gone down by 5pts with the update.

I had 5 great games against a variety of armies but mostly leaning towards the heretical. My toughest game was Vs the dreaded GSC piloted by a veteran cultist of the hive mind . An incredibly educational game for me that I managed to steal because Mikey had some awful luck turn 2/3. Sorry to steal the prize you deserve Mikey but congrats on coming third.

Another great game was Vs using his chaos with double accursed cultists and triple forgefiends. Unfortunately for Jon he decided to reserve the fiends you avoid my lances and underestimated the speed and flexibility of a mechanised raid and I managed to screen out the all four table edges turn 2 & 3 to prevent the fiends coming on the board. I also owe Jon a beer for letting me take back a big chunk of my turn one move as I made a mistake on which cultist unit had the mark of nurgle And lined up my shooting on the wrong unit. Thanks for being a great sport mate and congratulations on coming 2nd at the event.

My other games were great and I will likely cover them in brief at a later date on .

Thank you to all my opponents and the event organisers for a great weekend. Thank you to everyone at the event that came over to check on me and see that I was ok knowing that I have been struggling with my mental health lately, it really helped.

Ghaz is ready for a proper fight. It's been really fun painting this guy up as a side project, I could spend another week on him just touching up certain areas but I think he looks good as he is and I know my friend will love it. Next job is the suspiciously lucky Makari. Waaaagh!

Realspace Raid Report:

Last weekend I attended my first 10th edition event held by . The event was very well run especially considering how new the edition is and there are plenty of rules that simply don't work. The team did a great job at smoothing some of these out and making the weekend an all round fun experience for everyone there learning to play this new game.

I did so much better than I expected to do and played into a surprisingly diverse field of opponents.

1. Vs Tyranids 🟢
2. Vs Thousand Sons 🟢
3. Vs. Deathwatch 🟢
4. Vs Asuryani 🔴
5. Vs Astra Militarum 🟢

In the end I finished 4-1 with my beloved Drukhari trying out a mixed list focusing on my favourite units (mostly talos). The list worked well, all things considered, but definitely room for improvement. MSU is still amazing and so good at the new tactical missions. Power wise I think drukhari are in a good place though our build options are very limited and really is index dark lance rather than index dark eldar.

Thanks again to the event organisers and all my opponents for learning the new edition with me.

Oh, and I picked up best painted as well thanks to all the voters who nominated me and the kind words passed my way through the event.

Small this week. A few touch ups to my favourite model in the game because some idiot with an obsession about drukhari dropped it on a kitchen floor and chipped the paintwork.

I was looking to buy some aeldari to make an ynnari army so I can use this beast again but with 10th being announced im going to hold off.

Realspace Raid report. On Sunday I attended the very first Bugle Bash at up by the amazing Martin and his team at . Can't give enough praise about this event, the venue was excellent, tables were set up in a great way to get around the whole board with space around to pile up the corpses. All tables used the terrain which is perfect for competitive 9th edition. Most importantly, everyone at the event has a great time with no drama and great games had by everyone.

Full disclosure, I was feeling rough as f #*k on Sunday and in a fair amount of pain so my usual demeanour towards gaming was stunted somewhat and I found it hard to focus and think about the game. That being said I still had three great games that all were real nailbiters throughout, I really have to think and play drukhari to my best ability at all times now in this meta or you get stomped.

I managed two wins over my first opponents by controlling the primary and then hit into the new guard which is quickly becoming my least favourite codex of 9th edition. And somehow through guile, cunning and a few misplays by me, Gary managed to force a draw in round 3 and prolonging my revenge against him. All three of my games were very difficult and I think this meta is quite tough for drukhari as other armies seem to have a numbers advantage. I particularly noticed it into the salamanders where I was actually outnumbered by marines which is actually mental when you think about it. Highlight of the weekend was seeing 7 repentia butcher 8 Grotesques before drazhar called it a day and ended their redemption.

I finished the day in 3rd place and was voted best painted by the attendees which is very kind and unexpected as my corsairs are only base coated and are very much still a WIP.

Primary colours finally decided on my corsairs project.

I've said before that my friend had been a huge influence on me for my drukhari passion and so I thought I would pay homage to his fantastic force by using orange and black as the primary colours for my Corsair units as if they are sent from Duke Sliscus himself to help my archon raid realspace. I also thought that they would contrast really nicely with my metallic green Drukhari which is why I've gone for a non metallic look with these guys. Not a drop of gold or silver will touch these models to add to the contrast with the rest of my army.

Triptych WIP Wednesday! 🎨

George has been working on his Corsair Voidreavers with the colour scheme a subtle nod to Paulie’s Sky Serpents, he is deliberately avoiding metals so as to contrast stronger with his metallic Drukhari. Just main colours blocked in so far.

The new Underworlds warband Gryselle’s Arenai has served as inspiration for a new unit of Bloodbrides for Paulie, using various sets to kitbash some unique Hekatarii.

Dom is working on some Beasts, not Khymerae but Beasts of Nurgle!

Two new Helliarchs ready for the tabletop to boost my units up to 6 man to help them with threat and retrieving the data from the battlefield.

Slightly different take on the skin this time as I didn't use any shades. Base was pure daemonette hide, mid tone of rakarth flesh and highlight of palid wych flesh and I created in-between tones by mixing these colours on my palette. I think it's slightly more time consuming but that may be because I'm not used to this technique.

Congratulations to my partner in crime for doing really well at the Southampton GT this weekend in a really tough meta.
