Here are some photos from . One of the issues these activists are focused on is the missing women of Mexico and the general surge in violence across Mexico in recent years. Domestic violence in Mexico is also a serious problem that deserves attention.
The number of women who have gone missing in Mexico is staggering. According to figures from the National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH), there are currently 5,521 women who are unaccounted for. There are many theories about what has happened to these women, with most believing that they have been kidnapped and murdered by drug cartels. The disappeared come from a variety of backgrounds and include migrants and victims of human and sexual trafficking. Some are thought to be women who left home to escape domestic violence.
Domestic violence in Mexico is also a serious problem. According to a study by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), nearly one-third of women in Mexico have experienced some form of domestic violence. This number is even higher in certain states, such as Chiapas, where nearly half of all women have experienced domestic violence.
The issues of missing women, violence, and domestic violence in Mexico are all serious concerns. These problems are devastating families and communities throughout Mexico, and they must be addressed.
Music can be a powerful tool for empowerment, but it cannot be ignored that women still face significant barriers in the music industry. Many female DJs and musicians have spoken out about the challenges they face. Women often have to fight harder to get gigs and recognition, and they may face discrimination based on their appearance or how they are able to sell themselves.
It's a sad truth that in any industry where men are the gatekeepers, like the music industry, women face additional obstacles. Women often have to prove themselves more than their male counterparts, and their skills may be undervalued or overlooked. As one female DJ stated, "as a woman, it is much harder to open up doors when appearances are valued more than musical skills by those gatekeepers."
On Women's Day, we must acknowledge the systemic issues that continue to hold women back in the music industry. We must support and uplift female artists and demand that they receive the recognition and opportunities they deserve based on their talent and hard work, rather than their gender or appearance. Only then can we truly harness the power of music to bring about positive change and unity for all.
