*BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Govt will take care of power bills of poor, ‘but’ those having palatial houses, I-Phones with 5-G must pay as per usage: LG Manoj Sinha*

*Says borrowed electricity for Rs 20,000 Cr in last 4 years; people must cooperate in smart meter installation; 100 per cent metered feeder to have not even one minute power cut; J&K farmer’s income to be number one in country very soon*

Kulgam, Aug 07 : Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Monday made a big announcement stating that the government will take care of poor man’s power bill but those having palatial houses, I-Phones with 5-internet service and other gadgets have to pay power tariff as per their usage.

“Let me announce today that the government will take care of the poor who can’t afford to pay bills. But those who have palatial houses, I-Phones with 5-G internet data and other gadgets will have to pay power bills as per their usage. They shouldn’t at least make excuses in paying the power bills,” the LG said addressing a gathering at Mini-Secretariat in Southern district of Kulgam, as per news agency. He, however, did not elaborate further on this.

He said that in the last 70 years, 3400 MW power was generated locally in J&K and in the next three years equal MWs will be produced.

The LG said that wherever a feeder is 100 per cent metered, power disruption won’t be just for a minute let alone an hour or so. “I urge people to cooperate with us in getting the smart meter installation process completed as soon as possible,” he said. The LG said that J&K people are getting the cheapest electricity compared to other states. “We have borrowed Rs 20,000 Crore worth electricity from outside in the past three to four years. This won’t do. People must pay as per usage,” he said.

“Given the J&K’s topography and snowfall, some projects get delayed. Delay in completion of projects has been given to us in legacy and we are trying to break this tradition of delay in projects’ completion,” he said.

About farmers, he said that at present J&K farmer’s income is at number 5 across the country and time is not far when “our farmer’s income will be number 1.”

*Over 650 new fuel stations coming up in J&K, Ladakh*

Jammu, Jul 04: After a gap of eight years, state-run Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) have decided to open over 650 fuel stations across the union territories of Jammu –Kashmir and Ladakh.

Officials told news agency— the OMC’s including Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has invited applications from the citizens for participating in bid for fuel stations at rural and urban pockets of J&K and Ladakh covering new highways, unexplored tourist destinations etc.

“To speed-up the development works and further accelerate the country's fast-growing economy, the decision was taken to open new fuel stations,” an official said.

They added that bids have been invited to set up 643 new fuel stations across Jammu and Kashmir union territory and 34 in UT Ladakh.

“The development came for the first time after abrogation of article 370 and reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir, post August 2019,” sources said adding, “the last time the expansion of OMCs retail network was carried out in 2018.”

The applicants have been asked to visit website www.petrolpumpdealerchayan.in for detailed advertisement and brochure and submit online form application with processing fee by September 27.

Though availability of suitable land at the advertised location, stretch is crucial but the applicants for SC/ST locations can still apply without land initially, but they are expected to offer land when called for.

Dharmendra Singh, Deputy General Manager (Corporate Communications), Indian Oil Corporation Limited said that the new retail outlet network further boosts the economy of the country and speeds up development activities.

“With the country's economy experiencing significant development, the need for energy has increased manifold following which OMCs undertake massive expansion of the retail outlet network, which will cater to emerging markets such as urban areas, upcoming highways, agricultural pockets, rural, remote, and far-flung areas”.

The officer maintained that expansion of the network would also ensure the availability of that quality petroleum products to people besides creating employment opportunities for entrepreneurs.

He further said that the dealer selection process will be done through ease of doing business, for which OMCs introduced user-friendly and simplified online application forms.

“The selection process will involve a computerized draw of lots or bid opening conducted by an independent agency to enhance transparency,” the officer said.

He said that new dealerships of retail outlets have been seen as a significant opportunity for entrepreneurs to associate with Fortune 500 companies.

Network expansion has been an important business activity of PSU Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) for increasing the reach of petroleum products across the country.
