A lot of cultures seem to have some variation of "Pretty Woman Who Wants to Drown You." We have the Dames Blanches from France who don't necessarily drown you, but might throw you into a river. There's the Japanese Jorōgumo, who have a few stories involving drowning a guy near a waterfall. Egypt has the En-Naddāha, who entrances and drowns young men. Latin American La Llorona usually wants to drown kids. The Scottish Kelpie is often male in the stories, but some Scottish artist Thomas Millie Dow preferred drawing women and made his picture of a kelpie a sexy lady, which became a more popular version. There's also the Germanic Nixie, which is sometimes like a kelpie but sometimes like a mermaid but sometimes like a snake-human hybrid but sometimes like the creature from the black lagoon but is sometimes just a guy in wet clothes but is sometimes...
