Our Story

The Integral Cinema Project is a research, production and educational initiative exploring how the evolution of human consciousness can be represented and magnified within the domain of the moving image arts, from film to videogames, VR, AR and other moving image-based perception technologies. We do this through the application of Integral Theory to analyze existing works and to develop technologies and approaches to help artists and creators embed evolutionary consciousness into new works. Our goal is to help creators and audiences evolve into a more holistic, integral worldview.

Our intentions are to deepen our contribution to the transformative media and technology movement as we continue to map the transformative capacities of various moving-image-based mediums and platforms. Our goal is to develop content creation technologies to help enable creators to more precisely use their medium to target a particular transformative effect. These include inducing various states of consciousness, shifting perceptual constructs, assisting in emotional and psychological healing, catalyzing shifts in stages of individual and collective development, and gamifying and storyfying the stages of human development with the intention of creating and helping others create works that contribute to the evolution of individual and collective consciousness. Current projects include:

  • Researching the application of Integral Theory to moving image arts and developing an integral cinematic approach to moving image analysis, creation and reception

  • Mapping the co-evolution of the moving image, consciousness, technology, culture and society and disseminating the data and results we collect and develop through various publications, media and through the creation of an online interactive educational and professional resource to share the data.
