I’ve been guilty of being a bit shy with some ideas I’ve had and haven’t had a chance to properly tell you about

The original idea behind Calabash! was to nurture, uplift and develop the current and future black DJ’s in Sheffield and offer community and support too- but soon realised this extended past just music and into other artistic realms also.

For the very first instalment of a Calabash! I’m hoping to host an open mic event, to provide anyone from the black diaspora an opportunity to perform their craft in a space where we are free to express ourselves without censorship.

We’ll aim to deliver DJ workshops, open mic nights and create a roster of black artists in Sheffield in an effort to collectivise and platform what we can do.

I’ve been really nervous about it - anything that touches on racial disparities in any industry usually is nervewracking but I’m also excited - I talk a lot about how things could change and the world id like to see, so it’s about time I tried to do something about it (imposter syndrome aside - who am I, right?)

It could be a thing, or maybe it won’t, but! I think it’s worth a shot, if it helps even one person.

I’d also like to say thank you to literally everyone who’s pushed me off my butt to at least try this - I’m blessed to have true allies and friends in this 🤎

Where do I start - so
First up! - back with .radio
The last few months fundraising w the team have been a proper testament to the community we’ve built, but also working on Mondo w .g.is.elsewhere and has been flippin lovely and each of them are flippin fab ✨

Tune in first Thursday of the month for music from me, starting with some new amapiano drops

Early in august I finished my time w which was also incredible - and I’m going to proper shout out and for teaching me and inspiring me as well
I’m very excited to continue my algorave journey soon as well - so keep an eye out for that 👩🏾‍💻

17th Sept- I’ll be djing for Plantain Party with .g.is.elsewhere and , hosted by the lovely , and 🥰

23rd sept - I’ll be djing for big fundraising bash with some lovely lovely djs

29th sept - I’ll be at with some high nrg bits n bobs :)

I’ve added the Mondo Roster (which is missing some peeps!) bc I’m really proud of the work we’ve done to give more people from diverse backgrounds a chance in music and radio.

Some lovely bits coming up very soon!
I’ll be starting June with an invitation to sit on a panel discussion with some of the best to do it , and . It’s so interesting because each have influenced me in one way or another whilst finding my feet in music. Being a black woman based in thr north of the UK I wasn’t entirely sure where to seek inspiration from, so I’m grateful to sit on a panel of black women and non binary people who’ve served as that inspiration.
This event will be soundtracked and will also be a networking opportunity so hopefully I’ll see some known faces and new faces there! Thank you for the invite!

After that, I’ll be in London with the rest of the Mondo Management team alongside other northern DIY crews to launch a month long exhibition at the London!

To close, me n will be going b2b as part of the after party.

11th March - Calabash! Presents Zimi Mauna. Calabash is a project I’ve started to showcase black talent in electronic music. It’s got a focus for northern black DJ’s but also a platform to celebrate subcultures and genres pushed by black people! Super hype for a stream session and a mini live gqom only mix from Zimi and myself 💗

18th March - Back in forge with alongside some cool cats in the workroom, with some heavy drum tracks I reckon ;) not one to miss - and you deffo also wanna catch as well on this! 💥

24th March - I’m back in London with the sxc gang x for some high energy chicanery 😘

Really exciting to play out as part of the internal beatriarchy team and I’m so hype for the cool things we’ve got in store!!

Excited to be DJing for Freshly Squeezed x this Saturday! The acts on the line up speak for themselves and I’m honoured to be djing in and amongst them from 5-7pm.

There will be a stage outside site gallery if you want to come down and have a dance!

In another double bill weekend for me- I’ll be djing alongside Sheffield’s biggest talents from the African Diaspora. It’s an honour to be performing along people who have similar heritage to me- but also celebrating the wide variety of talent the African diaspora has to offer - this event is free entry before 11pm!
