The Means of Production, six of Brooklyn’s most captivating subterranean improvisers, have released their self-titled, debut LP. As psych outlet of record @ravensingstheblues recently noted, “...sparkling with heady hues and pristine curves.” Comprised by Matt Gibbs, Ben Pirani, Tre D’Ambrocia, Rafferty Swink, Pat Carr and Jay Mumford, their histories weave through credits of artists like Evolfo, Sinkane, Lizzie No, Ralph Weeks and Madlib. Initially formed to back Ben Pirani, The Means would forge a tight musical bond over the ensuing years of touring, rehearsing and embracing ‘60s no edits style recording sessions for Pirani’s @coleminerecords’ output. A natural evolution took place as the kinetic chemistry between the 6 members led to free-form musical experimentation. The Means began to explore the farthest reaches of their connection. Those urgent instrumental takes became what sits before you - a genre-defying kaleidoscope of electric jazz, psych and soul, reverberating through their own telepathic transmissions. We're super excited to tell you about Marco Benevento's new album, ‘Barn Burner: Live At Levon’s,’ due out March 29, 2024 on RPF. It features 13 performances—recorded earlier this year on January 13-14 at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY—that span Marco's eight studio albums. To be released on both vinyl and digital formats, the LP edition includes 2 records pressed on 180-gram, classic black vinyl with a beautiful gatefold jacket designed by High Tide NYC. The tracks were selected by Marco and mixed with Chris Bittner at APPLEHEAD RECORDING & PRODUCTION In Marco's own words: “Our shows at Levon’s barn are always my favorites. I can walk to the gig from my house, but even more important, the vibes are amazing! The staff, the sound, the energy of the audience, and of course, Levon’s spirit burning bright inside those four walls is like nowhere else.
