Press release regarding attempted home invasion.
On Monday December 30, 2024, at approximately 2151hrs, The Tulare Police Department communication center received a call in the 2000 block of E. Cross Ave regarding a subject banging on the door of an apartment, demanding entry. The caller advised the subject was in possession of a pipe and was unknown to the tenants. The caller told dispatch the subject broke the window to the apartment and were unsure if he made entry because they had locked themselves in a bedroom. Additional neighbors called and told dispatch the subject was screaming in the apartment complex. Officers arrived on scene but the subject, who was later identified as 40 year old Isaac Herrera, had gone back into his apartment.
Herrera did not make entry into the residence and the homeowners were not injured. Officer quickly learned Herrera had been acting erratically over the past few days and had vandalized property and threatening tenants. Officers also learned Herrera had been an employed as an armed security guard however, it was unknown if he was currently in possession of a firearm.
Crises Negotiation Officers were called to the scene and attempted to negotiate a safe surrender of Herrera, but he refused to come outside. Tulare Police Department SWAT was called to the scene, while negotiations continued. At approximately 0316hrs the SWAT team left the scene in the interest of public safety.
This morning at approximately 1033hrs, Tulare Police Department Detectives responded to Herrera’s residence and took him into custody without incident. A search of Herrera’s apartment was conducted and no weapons were located.
Isaac Herrera was arrested and transported to South County Detention Facility for charges of attempted Home Invasion and Criminal Threats.
