Special Event Station: GB70RS Live in Cornwall!🎙

This week only, Trevor (G4BHD) is proudly operating the special event callsign GB70RS from right here in Cornwall. This unique callsign celebrates 70 years of the GB2RS news service, a cornerstone of the amateur radio community in the UK.

The GB2RS news and weekly round-up are vital to keeping radio operators informed, engaged, and connected. In Cornwall, the service has long been a popular and trusted source of updates, bringing operators together through the airwaves.

The dedicated team of news readers behind GB2RS do a fantastic job, week in and week out, ensuring we have access to reliable and up-to-date information. Having spent time as a GB2RS news reader myself, I (Callum, G5XDX) can say it was a great honour and incredibly rewarding experience to contribute to this long-standing tradition.

Listen out for GB70RS on the bands and give Trevor a call!

ROC CHALLENGE24 – The Year of the DX Chase
As we close the logbooks on , it’s time to celebrate the incredible achievements of the ROC community. From sunrise chases to midnight pileups, our operators went above and beyond, proving that Cornwall really is pushing the DX barriers from within UK.

Here are the TOP 10 DX HUNTERS of :
1. G5XDX – Well, that’s me. With 211 DXCCs, I’ll admit it’s been quite a year. A dipole, 100 watts or fewer, and a lot of stubborn determination got me this far. I didn’t set out to top the table, but it turns out persistence and a few cups of tea can work wonders. And to those asking how I managed it? The secret is simple: spend enough time calling, and eventually someone will answer (Perhaps a touch of good timing too).
2. G4SEN – With 201 DXCCs, G4SEN achieved the incredible milestone of breaking 200. It wasn’t easy—endless nights, endless pileups, and no doubt endless cups of coffee. Who needs sleep when there’s rare DX on the band?
3. M0TIK – Logging 187 DXCCs while operating primarily from the PARC club station, M0TIK seemed to live on the airwaves when not working. Home? Who are they? If there was a rare station to be worked, chances are M0TIK was already in the pileup before you even tuned in.
4. M0XVN – At 125 DXCCs, M0XVN showed that patience and strategy win the day. With a steady hand and a sharp ear, this operator made every QSO count, often picking out rare stations others missed.
5. G5GYR – Reaching 114 DXCCs, G5GYR (2E0GYR) proved that consistency and effort are the keys to success. A solid year of chasing the best the bands had to offer.
6. 2E0IOL – Hitting the magic number of 100 DXCCs, this intermediate operator put in an incredible effort. A standout year and a great example of what can be achieved with determination.
7. M7FCD – One of our newly licensed operators, M7FCD logged 90 DXCCs in their first year of serious DX chasing. A brilliant effort and proof that M7s are a force to be reckoned with.
8. G4WKW – With 79 DXCCs, G4WKW showed that persistence and skill always pay off. A strong showing and a great addition to the top 10.
9. M7BPR – Another newer call sign making an impact with 64 DXCCs. M7BPR has set the bar high for newly licensed operators.
10. G1JJZ – Rounding out the top 10 with 50 DXCCs, G1JJZ demonstrated that every QSO contributes to the challenge and the community spirit.

The Far-Flung and the Rare
ROC operators worked some truly exotic DX this year. From the North Pole to the South Pole, and everything in-between, if it was on the air, someone in ROC probably worked it. There’s nothing like the thrill of breaking through a pileup to hear your call sign echoed back from thousands of miles away.
Looking Ahead to CHALLENGE25

Congratulations to everyone who participated in CHALLENGE24. Whether you logged one DXCC or 200, every QSO added to the fun and camaraderie of the ROC community. Let’s see what CHALLENGE25 has in store. More DX, more rare catches, and, hopefully, a few more hours of sleep for G4SEN.

For those sharp-eyed readers, you might notice some interesting tables shown. Yes, data modes, 6m, and other non-Challenge categories are shown. While they’re not officially part of CHALLENGE24, it’s a fun reminder that DXers can’t resist a good band opening – whether it’s 6m magic or a FT8 contact at 2 a.m.!

ROC Our Blueprint For 2025

A Year of Excitement and Exploration awaits

Get ready to take your amateur radio skills to new heights with ROC ! This dynamic programme offers a thrilling blend of activities and challenges designed to test your abilities, broaden your horizons, and connect with the global amateur radio community. Earn points, unlock achievements, and compete for recognition while expanding your skills and making unforgettable contacts.

Challenge25 Overview
Challenge25 is an exciting year-long operating event running
throughout 2025, designed to encourage amateur radio operators to engage in diverse operating styles, explore the full potential of their stations, and achieve personal milestones in a competitive yet
inclusive environment. This will be the blueprint for ROC throughout 2025.

Purpose
The ultimate aim of Challenge25 is to work as many unique DXCC
entities as possible across three separate operating categories:
1. Phone (SSB/FM/AM)
2. CW (Morse Code)
3. Digital Modes
Each category operates as a standalone contest, with operators logging and tracking their progress independently for each mode.
In addition, we have added a number of smaller sub challenges
designed to promote activity in different areas, within on air activities and activations as well as promote learning within the hobby.

Challenge Objectives
Challenge25 is structured around two primary objectives:
1. DXCC Focus: Encourage participants to work as many unique
DXCC entities as possible in one or more categories (Phone, CW,
Digital).
2. Skill Expansion: Motivate operators to expand their expertise by
attempting the additional challenges across power levels, modes,
timeframes, geographical areas, and operating styles.
By integrating a variety of challenges, Challenge25 encourages
operators to refine their skills, embrace new operating techniques, and engage in the amateur radio community.

Key Rules and Guidelines
1. Mode-Specific Contests:
• Phone, CW, and Digital are treated as separate contests.
• Participants can choose to compete in one, two, or all three
modes.
2. DXCC Entity Logging:
• The primary goal is to log as many unique DXCC entities as
possible for each mode.
• All entrants MUST log in full via CLUBLOG and join the ROC
CLUBLOG league.
• Contacts with the same DXCC entity across multiple modes
count separately (one per mode).
3. Challenges:
• Operators are encouraged to participate in the additional
challenges outlined in Challenge25 (e.g., QRP, Time Zones,
State Hopper, etc.).
• Successful completion of challenges adds depth to
participation and offers opportunities for extra recognition.
4. Log Submission:
• Log Accuracy: Operators must maintain accurate logs with
proper documentation for verification.
• Submission Responsibility: It is the responsibility of each
operator to track their achievements and submit logs for
verification.
• Logs must be submitted to CLUBLOG and validated by
Radio Operators Cornwall (ROC).
5. Verification and Scoring:
• ROC will review submitted logs to verify DXCC claims and
challenge completions.
• Progress tracking is managed by the operator and validated
by ROC upon submission.
**Participants must be current FULL or CHALLENGE members of ROC**

Challenge Highlights
• Flexibility: Participants can focus on DXCC counts, challenge
completions, or a combination of both.
• Skill Development: Encourages operators to explore different
modes, improve QRP skills, and embrace portable or mobile
operations.
• Community Engagement: Challenges such as contacting ROC
operators, youth operators, or special event stations foster
camaraderie within the amateur radio community.
Challenge25 is not just about achieving DXCC milestones but also
about embracing the spirit of amateur radio: experimentation,
