NMEdj - Cash Out

Well friendlies we're finally here, the end of our journey on day 8.

I wanted to personally thank everyone who has checked the album out and bought a copy, it means a lot to me. In one week from today it will be available on all major platforms, Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify etc

So on this final day I wanted to show you the title track called Cash Out, this was the catalyst for the album, it was the first and only track I completed when I came up with the concept for this album.

This is the gnarliest track on the album and covers a few genres, dnb, dubstep and drum step. I feel that my understanding of sound design hit a new level when I was working on this track and sent my career as a producer into previously uncharted territories, I started taking music production seriously after I finished this one.

I hope you've enjoyed the journey ... tomorrow I actually have a little surprise for you all, but I can't talk about it just yet so keep posted for that!

NMEdj - Things I'd Do

Day 7!

Today I wanted to show you guys a track called Things I'd Do, it's the "nice" track on the album.

For those that actually know me, you know I don't do "nice" music, I play and produce rowdy rowdy anthems that make you want to throw chairs around the room when you hear them.

One day I'm working on some new bits in the studio and my wife was reading a book and she asked me why I've never made a "nice" song before, I wasn't insulted, she was totally right, I've never tried making "nice" music before, so that's where this one started.

Our sound is called "Rude Sound Kru" and the on going joke whenever we're around each other is "well it's not called Nice Sound Kru" - what can I say, it's a rude boy ting.

I can't believe tomorrow is the final day already, we're going talk about the albums title track, Cash Out, which was also the catalyst for this entire album, hence the name!

NMEdj, J Rude, Illist - J Rad D

Day 6 falls on Sunday Funday.

Today we're talking about the only house track on the album called J Rad D, I worked on this track with two of my long time friends J Rude and Illist.

The three of us actually started this track at a completely different studio about a year ago, somehow the project file got lost (I blame Obama) and we decided to try and duplicate the track from scratch again. I feel like it turned out way better the second time around!

One of the main concepts of the Cash Out LP was to create a handful of different tracks covering a handful of different genres. I tried to push the envelope in terms of genre definition on a few tracks, this particular tracks second drop is actually trap at 120bpm which is something you don't hear often.

NMEdj, Kovert - Ingression

Happy weekend all, today is day 5!

Today we're talking about a super aggressive dubstep track that I worked on with my life long homie Kovert, we've been close friends since we were 5 years old, not much has changed since we were kids.

One day we were joking about playing a GPS game called Ingress and how we should bring a shot gun mic around with us and record the in game samples to make them into a dubstep track. It was funny at first, then we actually started working on the project and a few days later Ingression was born.

The goal was to use as many of the in game sounds as possible in the track outside of the drums and main baselines. This track haunted me for a few days while we were working on it, the in game sounds are creepy and so it was kind of a perfect fit for the genre, I think you'll agree!

NMEdj - Bout This Life

Whoa we're halfway there, today is day 4!

Let me introduce you to Bout This Life, this is the only drum & bass track that doesn't transition into another genre on the entire LP. The name says all that it needs to, if you don't know about drum & bass, you ain't bout this life!

I wanted to digitally recreate the epic horns you hear in major blockbuster film trailers and use that in a track, so that was where this slammer started in the sound design phase. I was a drummer long before I was a DJ, one of my favourite things in drum & bass is listening to the way artists use drums to align the sounds in their tracks, most people don't pay attention to the finer details like this, but I do which is one of the reasons this track sounds so unique.

Get ready to get rowdy, this banger is LOUD!

NMEdj, Roger Thvt - Ustle

For day 3 I wanted to show you guys the C track on the Cash Out LP called Ustle that I worked on with my homie Roger That!

This was a fun day in the studio, we started working on a trap song that turned into this kind of hybrid dubstep / trap thing and I couldn't be happier with the end result. I'm an open format bass music artist and I love a little bit of every genre.

It's a serious head banger there's no doubt about it, Zaak said "man this needs some horns" and it slowly started evloving into what it is now, it's grimy with an urban feel, I love the reaction this one gets when I play it live, it's a certified club banger!

There's still 5 more days to go, tomorrow we're going to talk about the first drum & bass track on the album!

NMEdj - Lifted

Day 2!

The B track on the Cash Out LP is called Lifted and it is my personal favourite on the album. I'm really into this future bass sound right now and have been playing a lot of this type of music at my live shows.

I remember starting this track like it was yesterday, it was a rainy Sunday morning after a stacked week of insane events, I woke up early, grabbed a cup of coffee, got lifted and went straight into the studio knowing exactly what i wanted to create.

The concept was telling a story about getting lifted without using any real words, I used three vocal samples to tell the story, first a cough, then an exhale, followed by a laugh ... I was feeling pretty lifted when I started working on this one haha ;)

NMEdj - Be Free

Hi Friendlies!

Over the next 8 days I'm going to introduce you to my debut album, the Cash Out LP, one track at a time.

Today is day one and I wanted to show you the A track on the album entitled "Be Free". This is a hybrid trap song that was made at drum & bass tempo with tons of organic sounds. This track had me feeling so many different ways while I was working on it, I hope it does the same for you.

I've always wanted to work on a track with a solid beat box intro, so that's where I started when I began with this song, I had no idea at the time it would turn into this monster!

This was one of the first tracks from the album that I started playing out live at major events in 2016, after watching the crowds reaction to this track I knew it had to make the final cut for the album.
