East Africa is home to the highest point, lowest point, Largest lake, deepest lake and longest river; in Africa. The region is also home to most of Africa's mountains, lakes and rivers, all thanks to the Great Rift Valley which splits the continent into two. The rift valley is the result of the pulling apart of the two plates Africa lies in, The Somali plate(where most of East Africa is on) and the nubian plate(where the rest of Africa sits).

AFRICAN PROVERB: If we stand tall it is because we stand on the shoulders of many ancestors

Meaning: It is easy to forget that no man or woman achieves success all by himself or herself. True success is a product of many effort. We may be the ones that did the major part or made the most contribution but someone helped us to get to where we are. It may be the one that smiled at us or the one that patted us on the back or the one that validated our feelings or the one whose failure we learnt from. Someone definitely provided us some support. So if we stand tall, we need to remember the shoulders of support on which we stand. This proverb also teaches us of the need to check our history —not with the view to finding fault but with the view to finding our founding fathers. That is, those who fought for our freedom and right. And to fill our heart with with true humility to cherish their effort. The metaphor in the proverb is one of children who being carried on the shoulders of relatives. In that sense, the children are tall —not because of their height, but because of the shoulders of the ones carrying them. A child can also see further, not because he has the ability within himself but because of the advantage of standing on the shoulders of those carting him. The strides we are making today is because of the strides that were made in time past. I think it was Sir Isaac Newton who once said, "if I have seen further [than others], it is by standing on the shoulders of giants” May we have the humility to appreciate the shoulders on which we are standing to see further. Be humble
