Texas Origin: Juneteenth began in Texas and was celebrated primarily in that state until it started gaining broader recognition in the late 20th century.

State Holidays: Texas was the first state to make Juneteenth an official state holiday in 1980. As of 2021, it is recognized as a federal holiday in the United States.

Modern Celebrations: Today, Juneteenth is celebrated with various activities, including parades, festivals, barbecues, educational events, and more, reflecting African American culture and heritage.
