I always wonder why it takes teams so long to honor their generational players? Why sometimes they honer them when they have passed away so they cant see it and enjoy it. To start Week 1 of the 2026 season we are going to have our first jersey retirement of the dynasty. 4 years ago Lousiville was not considered a threat to anyone in the country. That day changed when out of the blue the #1 RB in the class 2021 decided to commit to Lousiville over championship come tending teams such as Iowa.
Lamont Maynard out of NY chose to play his ball at Louisville to change a program. Many people sceptical of his decison as Louisville coming off of a 3 win season had nothing going for them. Changing the culture of the program is an understatement of what he did in his time at Louisville. Every year on the Cardinals we’re national championship contenders because of him. Lamont posed a problem for the top teams in country for the next 4 years that had no solution. Obviously him having great individual success was a given but what he did to raise a culture from nothing is why we are honoring him today. Lamont was the epitome of a generational player that had high expectations and somehow rose above them in every way.
Lamont ended his career one of the most decorated players in college football history.
2x Heisman Trophy Winner
Back to back to back winner of Walter Camp, Maxwell, and Doak Walker awards.
Take a look Lamont’s career stats as he set new records in every statistical category for a RB. One of the most dominant players in college football history and more importantly a great foundational piece to what Lousiville Cardinals football is all about.
Tune in soon as we will kickoff against Wake Forest in as we put the number 1 Jersey in the rafters, and start the post Lamont Maynard era. Football Civilization
