Had a wonderful time this past Tuesday at the Tech Rising Summit led by the AvidXchange Foundation at Ally Bank on behalf of Carolina Women+ in Tech .

The focus of this event was A.I and Digital Equity.

I learned more about generative AI, how to utilize AI as a tool for nonprofits, and that AI should be used as an assistance method, not a replacement technology.

Another takeaway I found imperative was that it’s important for humans to validate the AI tools we are using. For instance, we need to ask questions before utilizing these tools. Such as; who are building these models? How are they being built?

Intentional bias can be embedded in our AI tools depending upon who is constructing and coding. These models are only as good as the people programming them. Diverse thought, perspectives and experiences are a necessity.

🌸MEET REYAÑA 🌸 Founder of and upcoming vendor at The Root of You retreat tomorrow!

Chef Reyaña grew up in New Orleans where famously unique cuisine was everywhere. Her Dad and Grandmother both taught her traditional Creole & Cajun dishes, as well as basic cooking methods at an early age. Her Mom opened her eyes to the wonders of well-made everyday comfort foods.

By the age of fifteen, Reyaña went to her high school counselor and proclaimed that she wanted to be a chef! Realizing that if she wanted to be the best, she would have to have the best training, education, and experience. So, she decided to attend the best university - Johnson and Wales University, also known as the Harvard of Culinary Arts. After earning an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts, Reyaña went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Food Service Management. During her time in school, she worked at several prominent resorts, and spent a semester catering at the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. Once done with school, she stayed in Charlotte, North Carolina working in country clubs at every station, eventually becoming a Hotel Sous Chef, prior to ultimately earning the prestigious title of Executive Chef.
When everything about everyday life on the planet changed in 2020, Reyaña used her fine dining experiences to start her own catering company, Your Braisen Chef, LLC. Like so many others, she made the best of a difficult situation and gained freedom in being able to create her own epicurean triumphs, all while including her daughter Tiarra and teaching her how to become a businesswoman.

Today, Chef Reyaña enjoys catering for special occasions, doing culinary demonstrations at industry events, and teaching cooking classes in person and virtually through social media. She has been featured on the podcasts Patchwork (Episode 17), Baddies with Business (Episode 88) a guest chef at The BayHaven Food & Wine Festival for 2 years running, Crave Charlotte Food & Wine Festival, Summer of Chow Chow Food Festival, a featured Chef at Sliced Cooking Competition as well as the NCRLA
2022 Chef Showdown, and at various teaching arenas.

🌸MEET ANNA 🌸 The Founder of and upcoming vendor at The Root of You retreat on 2/18 !

Anna tried many types of teas, but her love for tea deeply ties to her Japanese roots. The cultivation and preparation of Japanese teas will always be something she deeply appreciates. Japanese tea ware is also a fascination of hers. In traditional tea ceremonies in Japan, artists would come together to drink tea made from handmade ceramic bowls. They would make ceramic bowls and cups curated in kilns to share. Tea ware today still holds much influence from this period in time. The earthiness, textures and organic tones of these ceramic pieces inspires much of her personal and brand aesthetic today.

Anna’s vision for Soso Matcha is to curate speciality green teas that not only promote healthy habits but that are good for you. She wants Soso Matcha to inspire those drinking tea, that there is beauty in imperfection and to take a moment to slow down and enjoy the simple moments, with a cup of tea.

Lauren is a certified functional nutrition coach, a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and a Plant-Based personal chef. One look at her Instagram page and you can see the passion and creativity in her plates. It’s edible art! She incorporates vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers to create these vibrant beautiful dishes that not only nourish you but spark joy just by looking at them. She creates her own recipes from scratch, as well as taking spins on traditional recipes to make them plant based so you can eat a well balanced plant based meal and not feel like you are missing a thing!

Born in the Netherlands. She officially began her journey to
mediumship in 2013, but her various spiritual encounters
since childhood has led her to this calling. She was raised in
Charleston, SC, lived in various cities, and currently resides in Charlotte, NC. She connected with several mediums who have helped strengthen her spiritual gifts throughout the years. She studied tarot, reiki, classes to hone in her intuition, and finally is certified in mediumship. Her
purpose is to help others bring clarity to their lives, connect
with loved ones who have crossed over, and to offer
confirmation as they go along their journey. She also uses her gifts to teach workshops in tarot, intuition, emotional
intelligence, self-love, and mindfulness. Ultimately, she
wants to help bring people back to themselves.

Had the blessed opportunity of speaking with local students in a mentorship networking event courtesy of . Our youth is so impressionable, wondrous and important. I loved hearing about each of them and how they are so vastly different and similar, simultaneously. Their dreams and visions for their futures are what I love to hear most and pouring into them is a privilege. I’m grateful to share with them my experience as an entrepreneur and a lady in her late 20’s trying to figure it out as I go as well.

Megan graduated from East Lincoln High School and holds an Associate's Degree from CPCC. She is married to Daniel, who is now the President of D R Mozeley Construction Group. After having two sons, Megan decided to stay at home and spend time with her family. In 2022, she took the initiative to establish Pleasant Grove Farm as a venue, aiming to preserve the land and create a community space for various events.
