On this day in 1973, the Elton John released the LP “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” (October 5)

The double album is arguably Elton John’s best, with hits like "Candle in the Wind", US #1 single "Bennie and the Jets", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting".

It’s sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, and went to #1 in the US, the UK, Australia and Canada.

In 2003, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

In 2020, the album was ranked #112 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Exactly fifty-four years ago this month, Steppenwolf released the single “Magic Carpet Ride” (September 1968)

The song went on to peak at #3, staying in the charts for 16 weeks, longer than any other Steppenwolf song.

When preparing to record the band's second album, “The Second”, bass player Rushton Moreve came up with a "bouncy riff", and the rest is rock history, with the song going down as an absolute classic, celebrated to this day.
