Truth be told, some of the prices of goods are simply annoying. How can a table I rented for 10 cedis last year for instance, be 15 cedis this year? It is the same table from the same owner who has not bought a brand new set to justify the increment.
Fuel prices doesn't affect him because I take care of the transportation of the tables. Foreign exchange rates can not affect these tables because they were bought probably five years ago. In fact, the price of these tables for rent should have rather reduced as wear and tear would definitely set in.
The fact is that some of us are simply wicked and we think that Allah is not watching. The worst part of it is that these prices will never reduce again even if NDC comes back to power and stabilize the economy and strengthen the cedi. Even if the cedi strengthens to 1 cedi to a dollar and fuel prices reduced to the barest minimum with corresponding low transport fares, these wicked souls will never reduce the prices again.
Much as I fault government for their poor management of the economy with their continuous annoying lame excuses, the Ghanaian citizenry have a portion of the blame for the hardship in the country.
One would have thought that we will empathize with each other in these hard times but, no! Not the Ghanaian business owner. Let's all add our voices to condemning this rather unpleasant phenomenon devoid partisan politics.
Remember that political power will not remain with one political party forever. If we join hands today and sanitize the business environment, we will be reducing the hardship today and years to come. I believe there is a religious aspect to this which I will surely get a respected Islamic cleric to educate us all in due course.
