👟Today is the kickoff for our Steps for Safety walkathon!!

We, along with many of you who have already signed up to participate, will be walking 30, 60, or 90 miles through the month of July to raise support and awareness around the issue of family controlled human trafficking!!

💔survivors who are in need of getting out and getting to safety have to walk through UNIMAGINABLY difficult steps…. But💕 at Mezzo Allies, we are creating safer paths forward for them, cultivating advocates and professionals they need to walk alongside them and working directly with survivors to offer support and guidance as they make their journey.

🫶🏻we need your help though. This work is vital, and it takes an ARMY to continue creating change!

My daughter’s birthday is coming up🎈

This year, it’s sinking in just a bit deeper- the reality that her birth very much saved my life.

I will never forget taking one look at this beautiful baby girl, and immediately feeling like every wall, every box, every barrier I had put up in my mind that blocked the dark world from ever touching the bright world, came crashing down. I could barely breathe just looking at her. I was scrambling, trying to tell myself it was just hormones, it was just the baby blues, *maybe* postpartum anxiety- (except we didn’t acknowledge such things in the church world)- but nothing helped. When my boys were born, the boxes shook and fear started to creep in…. But nothing like this…

I KNEW that if I could not even keep myself safe from my abusers… how would I EVER keep her safe from them?

It took over a year before I could work up the courage to ask for help…. I scheduled MANY appointments with different therapists and either cancelled or no-showed to all of them. Until, I found Laurie💕

I was TERRIFIED from the moment I made the appointment. But, I went…. I went in secret, I went scared, I went not really believing ANYONE could help me…. But I went nonetheless.

That was almost 7 years ago.

The journey is FAR from over. But today, right now, because I asked for help, because I FOUND the right help against all odds in the messy middle space, because I took ONE LOOK at that beautiful baby girl… I am still here. Still fighting. Still keeping her, myself and my boys safe from the generational abuse I lived through.

What I know now, is that the messy middle from danger to safety and healing is impossible without someone who knows HOW to stand in the wind with you. It’s treacherous, dangerous and terrifying…and far too many survivors don’t make it through. That is why … that is why we keep going and keep fighting…. So that the generations coming after us can have a faster, safer and quicker path to safety than I did.

Today is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day💙

As a victim of Family Controlled Human Trafficking, the message I received EVERY DAY was:

💔NO ONE WILL BELIEVE YOU
💔NO ONE WILL LOVE YOU
💔NO ONE WILL PROTECT YOU

It wasn’t until I could start to break free of those LIES that I could finally see a way to get help, to tell and to heal….

As we shed light on this heinous crime, we HAVE to counterbalance those lies and make the world a safer place for victims to come forward and get help.

We MUST educate ourselves and those around us on what human trafficking does and CAN look like, what red flags are and how to be a SAFE support for a victim coming forward.

For anyone who is interested…. The answer and counter claim against Sherri Kern was filed by Kait’s attorney just before Christmas….

The link to the whole filing is in the comments as it is public record, however we wanted to note that the X (Twitter) account that she complains about in her suit is NOT run or affiliated by The Ugly Truth About the Girl Next Door or Kait (or Laurie for that matter)…. This is something that was very obvious… 🤔

Needless to say, this lawsuit was yet ANOTHER attempt to silence a victim, harass and threaten. They are hoping we will back down….. but we won’t. 💪🏻

🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR!!🎉

The holidays have been a bit rough- which is to be expected for many survivors of Family Controlled Trafficking. But… we are back! We are kicking off a new year with a lot in store both on the podcast as well as with our nonprofit org !

January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month and this month we will be sharing a lot of information, addressing some important things on the podcast and continuing to make a change in the world to better support survivors of this type of abuse. What we know is that abusers DONT STOP…. But neither do we 👏🏻💪🏻

Today marks four years of going no contact with my parents…

I remember the absolute terror I felt in finally saying “no more” … I remember so vividly the panic of what would happen next. They knew I told. They knew I was talking (at that point just privately but even that was against EVERYTHING they said)…. The lies they imprinted on my brain and body- “We DONT tell. We DONT talk about it. NEVER let it show” - SCREAMED in my head….

I took this picture a few days after the initial meeting and I remember wanting to stay in that safe moment forever. With my loving husband and our three precious kiddos, safe… all on the couch together.

We didn’t get to stay in that moment but we have clung to each other and the people around us who came alongside us to pick us up, to keep us SAFE and moving forward…

I held onto Laurie as I faced the hardest of hard memories and tried to keep breathing literally moment to moment at times…

Blood is not thicker than abuse. I will stay clinging to my little family and to the people we choose to walk this road with us.

And…We will continue to stay loud so that other survivors coming after me do not have to be terrified. So that they’re path forward to safety and healing is EASIER and FASTER. So that they don’t have to wonder if they’ll really ever make it. We won’t quit.

So much has happened in four years….and we keep going.💜

🎉BIG NEWS!!🎉
Our nonprofit organization, Mezzo Allies, Inc. recieved our OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL 501(c)3 status!! We are now recognized by the IRS as a tax exempt organization!

We are so grateful and humbled to have this as it continues to open doors for us to spread awareness and educate an army of helpers who will know what to look for, how to hold space for victims and be a safe person when they come forward🩵 We will also be continuing our advocacy and direct support of survivors of organized abuse and family controlled trafficking.

✨it is the little things✨
This past week has brought so much reflection and hope and memory of where we have been, where we are and where we are GOING.

2️⃣years ago this week, some really awful things took place. I was hurt and stuck and terrified and needed help that we couldn’t find.

1️⃣year ago this week, we were desperately begging Cornerstone Church on Grand Island to do better after they allowed a NAMED S*X OFFENDER attend a CHILDREN’S Halloween event at the church

🎉And this past week THIS YEAR, we stood in front of hundreds of DCF workers and leaders in the state of Massachusetts and spoke to them about my experience as a survivor, trained them on what this type of abuse looks like and helped them start to think about changes they will make to be the difference for the kids coming after us.

This is just the beginning. There is a generation behind us that will have help available because people listened, learned and took ACTION to know more.

But I made it here because of all the little things along the way. The glimmers of hope to keep going. The people who supported and came alongside. The ones who didn’t look away when it got hard. It doesn’t take much to make a world of difference for a survivor.

Stay tuned for our upcoming podcast episode about the dichotomy this week has been from 2 years ago and last year.

AS LOUD AS WE CAN FOR AS LONG AS WE CAN💪🏻
