📣 New Blog Post: When the Headlines Hit Home

“I knew him.
And now I’m reading a press release that he was arrested for sexually abusing a child.

What gutted me even more? The comments.

“He’s such a great guy.”
“Innocent until proven guilty.”
“There’s no way he would ever do something like that.”

As a survivor of familial trafficking, I’ve heard those words before—about my abusers. I’ve seen Reddit threads and Facebook groups filled with strangers confidently discrediting my story with zero understanding of what survivors go through.

I remember sitting in an ER waiting for a SANE exam. Trying to talk to police. Desperately hoping someone would believe me. No one goes through that kind of pain for a lie.

If you haven’t lived it, you don’t get to judge it.”

This blog is raw. It’s personal. It’s exactly why we do this work.

🧭 This year, the Mezzo Allies Walkathon takes us on a virtual journey through the Grand Canyon — every step you take moves your icon along a real trail with live updates and stunning images.

But this isn’t just about scenery.

💔 Over 40% of trafficking survivors report their first trafficker was a family member or caregiver.

When the abuse is coming from your family, and the “helpers” don’t understand… the road to freedom is treacherous and lonely.

That’s why we walk.
For awareness. For safety. For survivors.

🌄 Join us from anywhere.
🗓 Walk starts July 1

✨ My daughter’s birthday is coming up… and every year, it brings me back to the reality of how the need to protect her, changed my life forever.

When she was born, I looked at her and knew—KNEW—that I couldn’t keep her safe unless I found a way to keep myself safe. I had tried so many times before but with each failure, my abusers lies were reinforced… Every fiber of my being screamed “WE DON’T TALK ABOUT THIS…. I’m not allowed to let it show…” I was terrified….But I had to try. One more time.

That was the beginning of this final fight to break the cycle of abuse and trafficking I had been trapped in my whole life. A brutal, treacherous journey that has cost me so much… but one I would walk again a thousand times over, because I’m✨still✨here. Still standing. Still speaking out.

For her.
For me.
For every survivor trying to claw their way toward freedom.
For every victim that will come after me.

I think of them every day. My heart shatters KNOWING the incredible pain and seemingly impossible journey to safety.

I hold onto hope that they’ll find a safe place to land. That by walking ahead of them and speaking out, we are creating safer spaces and systems for them to tell their experiences. That they’ll find the courage, SUPPORT, and SAFETY they need to fight their way out so much sooner than I did.

To the ones still trapped: you are not forgotten. Change is coming.
To the daughters: may we build a world worthy of you. 💔➡️❤️‍🩹

This picture appears so happy. Familiar. Like a snapshot of something good.
But the truth is, it’s a lie.💔

My mother is scribbled out in this photo because the version of her that most people saw — the “bright world” mom — isn’t the whole story.

In the dark world that I was forced to survive in, she was something else entirely. She drove me to places where she knew abuse would happen. She handed me over. She actively helped cover it up. I have clear memories of her opening the bathroom door and tossing in towels while I cleaned blood off my own body — and walking away like it was normal.

This is what people don’t understand about family-controlled trafficking. The people who hurt us are OFTEN not strangers hiding in alleyways.

💔Sometimes they’re mothers.
💔Sometimes they’re the ones tucking you in at night after selling you all afternoon.

Mother’s Day is complicated. For those of us who were betrayed by the very person meant to protect us, it’s not just a hard day — it’s a haunting one.

I’m sharing this because there are so many survivors still carrying this secret. You are not alone. Your pain is valid. Your story is real — even if no one wants to believe a mother could be capable of this.

💛Remember that FOUND FAMILY is real- the people who choose you, stand beside you and show up for your healing. They count. You get to redefine what family means, and you deserve to be loved in a way that doesn’t hurt💕

We started The Ugly Truth About the Girl Next Door podcast because the world needed to hear the hard things. ➡️This is one of them.

🚨 New Podcast Episode Out Today! 🎙️

In this powerful episode, we sit down with Stephen Mills, author of Chosen: A Memoir of Stolen Boyhood, and Anthony Edwards, acclaimed actor, producer, and director (you may know him as Goose from Top Gun or Dr. Greene from popular tv show, ER).

With incredible honesty and courage, these men share their experiences of childhood sexual abuse and the lasting impact it has had on their lives.

We also dive into institutional coverups and the silence of bystanders who choose not to act.💔

This is an important conversation—one that demands awareness, accountability, and change. 💙

⛷️Skiing isn’t just a sport for me—it’s has at times been a lifeline.

As a complex trauma survivor, being connected to my body has always been a challenge. For so long, I struggled to feel grounded or to trust the movements of my own being. I have walked through life largely hating my body as it felt (sometimes still feels) damaged, dirty snd broken. These are the lies my abusers imprinted on me. But skiing has helped change that.

There’s something about the rhythm, the cold air, the sheer freedom of it that allows me to feel present in a way I never thought possible. It’s a moment where I’m fully in my body, doing something that is not only fun but healing.

I’m deeply grateful for the strength my body has to ski, to push boundaries, and to embrace something I never imagined myself capable of. It’s not always easy as I battle with lasting physical impact from the trauma I experienced, but the ability to push through and find strength is so much part of the healing.

This journey reminds me of how far I’ve come—and how much joy is possible on the other side of struggle.

To anyone out there searching for connection, healing, or even just a little hope: keep going. Your “skiing” might be waiting for you, too.
