Things have changed a little, decided taking down my website and find a different web-host.
And also will have a location for coming by looking at decks
in the future if you are visiting or live around Houston area.
Always fun meeting new people with same interest for these old machines.
I also have many other music related items, like turn-tables, cassette decks, amplifiers, speakers, vinyl records and even a huge box of 8-track tapes & couple of 8-track players.
Down sizing this year for more space and possible move somewhere else in the future. 😎

A few from the old collection of decks.Akai 4000DS, Teac A-1200, Akai GX-4000D, Tascam 42NB and Sony TC-630.

Akai GX-4000D in action.
Had to delete previous video of this deck because of copyright issues even if the recording was from radio with just parts of two songs.. oh well, here you can see the same Akai playing.
Enjoy :)

A few people have asked what would be a good starter deck ?
Well, personally Akai made several nice models that have nice sound and easy to operate, 4000 DS, MKII and GX-4000D.
GX-4000D was one great single motor model with glass heads (less problems with worn out heads) and soundwise in the higher end quality I think.
I compared GX-4000D with both GX-635 and 747, if you have good high bias tape these sounds great !
A 4000DS or MKII model are also single motor operated, but they did not have GX- glass heads so watch out forworn out heads.
That's the first thing to look for when buying a reel to reel.
Speed option on all 3 Akai models are 3-3/4 and 7-1/2.
Here is one 4000DS MKII I refurbished awhile back:
