Hi Moms,
Last night a woman named LaDonna stopped by the School of Rock with her dog and asked to speak to me. It turns out that several years ago, maybe 6 or 7, she had stopped by the school with her daughter. As I always do, I welcomed them in, took them on a tour and watched her daughters eyes light up when I told her that she reminded me of Macy Gray. I found out that her daughter was Jailyn Logan-Bledsoe, an OPRF graduate, was the 18 year old young woman who was shot and killed at the BP Gas Station in Oak Park this past June. Her mom came by because she is trying to focus on healing and recalling good memories of their brief time together.
As a mom of two young adults, I cannot fathom the traumatic and violent loss and the depth of her pain. LaDonna Logan, her mom, also a realtor, is struggling to both deal with the loss and her grief and also keep her family afloat. I don't think many of us would be able to function and work so soon after such a traumatic event.
LaDonna wants to heal and get back to work. She walks four miles a day which I believe is her meditation. When I asked about her son, she said this: "He’s out doing Uber Eats from morning to night to take care of his bills and help keep our lights on, food, etc. He should be enjoying his life and we want to get back to that point but it’s incredibly rough right now. Months from now I can be at the point of giving back tremendously to my community but right now I don’t want to loose my home from falling behind during such a difficult time." He is 21 and lost his sister and best friend.
So here is the reality of what someone like LaDonna is going through. She can't afford to buy cat litter, food for her and her son, and all of the bills that come with supporting a family and a household. He son who is also grieving is trying to take care of his mom. This all makes me so sad and angry.
Can we pool our resources and help her out? She is a beautiful and smart woman who is trying to smile through her tears. I am going to post this in several groups and thank you for taking the time to read this.
