UPND INFIGHTING: MAN PROTESTS NAKED OVER CADRE BEATING MAYOR'S WIFE
By Evans Liyali
A member of United Party for National Development (UPND) in Mazabuka, matched in the streets naked, when members of the ruling party staged a protest Monday afternoon against the alleged beating of Namwaka Lilanda, wife to Mayor, Vincent Lilanda.
Lilanda’s wife was involved in a confrontation with Mazabuka Central UPND Youth Chairperson, Bright Hamweenda at Mazabuka Golf club, Saturday night.
One of the protestors, Nicodemus Kalonga, threatened to stage a naked demonstration to State House if President Hakainde Hichilema fails to end increasing tension and violence in the district.
Another UPND member, Phinias Mweene, demanded for justice in the matter, saying party members are not happy with the assault on Lilanda’s wife.
Earlier, Hamweenda, who narrated the ordeal to Byta FM’s Joe Pandwe, said the Mayor’s wife called him useless and slapped him whilst he was engaged in a conversation with her husband.
But when contacted to give his side of what transpired, Mazabuka Mayor, Vincent Lilanda, expressed regret at what happened.
“It is unfortunate Joe that politics have gone to that level, I never had a conversation with that gentleman, he just started poking me, even my shirt is torn” Lilanda narrated.
“Why my wife 'pushed' him is because he was insulting on top of his voice, everyone was there, he insulted my mother and called my wife all sorts of names,” Lilanda explained.
Asked how his wife was fairing after onlookers said that she had fallen to the ground after being slapped by Hamweenda, the Mayor revealed that she has general body pains.

IF IT MEANS DYING TOMORROW, LET ME DIE - LILANDA
Mazabuka Mayor Vincent Lilanda has demanded for justice in the matter where he was punched and sustained a deep cut on the upper lip.
Lilanda has since vowed that he is ready to sacrifice his body for the peace of the residents of Mazabuka, adding that it is unfortunate a lot of people have allegedly being beaten by Hamweenda.
"I want whoever is heading police to retrieve all those dockets there where people have been paid ma K10,000. People have been paid weekly.Everyday people are assorted there," said Lilanda.
"Weekly, people are assaulted there. I want people, the police to retrieve, a neutral person all the dockets that have been there. I think the gentleman isn't being fair to the people of Mazabuka. And I'm ready to sacrifice my body just for the peace in Mazabuka. I don't want this bloodshed to continue. Why should Mazabuka be shedding blood all the time? Why?We are a Christian nation."
But Hamweenda has equally demanded for justice, saying he is going to wait for the law to take its course, further maintaining that he never assaulted the Mayor, but his wife, who he says should also be arrested for assaulting him.
