Carlos P. Garcia High School celebrated the culmination of English Month 2023 with the theme "Nurturing Resilient Global Learners in the Changing Artificial World" on December 12, 2023. The celebration featured the announcement of contest winners and the much-anticipated Parade of Book Characters.
The event commenced with the singing of the nationalistic song "Pilipinas Kong Mahal," conducted by Mrs. Marichu B. Tabuniag. Following this patriotic anthem, Mrs. Imelda P. Genovate delivered the opening prayer, invoking blessings and guidance for the ceremony.
Taking the stage, Ms. Kristine T. Ballesterol, Head Teacher III of the English Department, delivered the opening remarks, expressing gratitude to those behind the celebration's success and setting the tone for the rest of the event.
The highlight of the celebration unfolded as participants from grade levels 7, 9, and 10 showcased their captivating costumes in the Parade of Book Characters. Strutting in creative attire, participants introduced their characters, incorporating unexpected, improvised scenes and ad-libs that not only expressed their characters but also entertained the audience.
While waiting the announcement of the Parade of Book Characters winners, intermission numbers injected energy into the atmosphere. Dazzling performances by the first-place winners of the month-long English celebration, including Jhon Jhezlie G. Gabiola (Storytelling), Ken V. Sanchez (Declamation), March Fe Ramirez (Declamation/Oration), Jella Buscado (Oration), and Grade 9 Del Pilar (Speech Choir), left a lasting impression on the audience.
As the program approached its conclusion, the awarding of contest winners began. Mr. Diosdado D.G. Florendo, Ms. Kristine Ballesterol, and the English teachers assigned to each contest presented the awards to the winners.
The highly anticipated announcement of the Parade of Book Characters winners revealed Rhome Ocampo as the victor in the Most Economical category, Charlize Vada Idalo for the Most Dramatic Performance, Alfonso Allanza earning the title of Most Charming Character, and Vienna Tanasha Viernes securing the spot for the Best Book Character Costume.
The audience erupted in applause as students from various grade levels received their well-deserved recognition.
Just before the program ended, the esteemed school principal, Sir Diosdado DG. Florendo, shared insightful words resonating with the Garcian community. Following this, Mrs. Cristy B. Bonon, the overall chairman of the English Month 2023 celebration, delivered the closing remarks, expressing gratitude to those who contributed to the event's success.
Indeed, the triumph of this event is a testament to the sustained efforts, tremendous support, and valuable contributions from everyone involved, truly turning it into a celebration of success and unity.
