Did you know that July is Disability Pride Month?

Forget the sob stories - we're hitting fast-forward with the tired tropes. We want to see authentic stories where disabled characters overcome challenges, achieve their dreams, and rewrite the narrative themselves.

Are there any films we missed? Share in the comments below!

We did a thing! SEP’s project RANGOLI was selected as a project for Lower East Side Film Festival’s Stay Indie Project!⁣

The Stay Indie Project is an opportunity for narrative and documentary filmmakers to pitch for up to $400k in financing and production services.⁣

RANGOLI’s is a fantasy drama focusing on Adi. After his father suddenly dies, Adi, a down on his luck motel employee, is stuck running his family’s business. However, he must contend with the relationship with his mother, all whilst dealing with a chaotic drag persona that refuses to leave his mind.⁣

Special congrats to producer Neal Ludevig & writers Vishaal Reddy and Arun Welandawe-Prematilleke for this honor! ⁣

We are excited to further develop this story with the LES Film Festival crew!⁣

Now let’s go create some wonderfully dark and snarky art :) ⁣

—⁣

According to the LES Film Festival⁣:

“We were truly inspired by the exceptional quality and originality of all the submissions we received - our selection process was as inspiring as it was challenging. Congratulations to our selected participants! These filmmaking teams stood out among the many extraordinary entries with projects that truly embody the Stay Indie spirit - pioneering stories that invite a broad audience to join in on the adventure. We cannot wait to see their visions come to life.”⁣

This week our team, along with SEP’s advisory board, got together in our virtual space to meet our “snarky” creators! As we learned more about their work and life, it was a reminder that art is alive and well.⁣

It was such a joy to meet these creators who are pushing the boundaries of storytelling and who are passionate about diversifying the entertainment industry.⁣

We’ll have more updates on each creator and their projects in the next few weeks, but for now, enjoy these photos of us in the virtual space. ⁣

With our content, we call out the “elephant in the room.”⁣

Our content is grounded in reality, yet isn’t afraid to make people uncomfortable. ⁣

The elephant is also an auspicious and revered animal in our world. ⁣

Like our characters, its essence symbolizes of strength, power, stability and wisdom.⁣

And with that mindset, our content reflects this idiom.⁣

We want to showcase the darkly comedic, yet wonderfully complex humanity within us all.⁣

27/09/2022

Let’s celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month! Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.⁣

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.⁣

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. ⁣

At SEP, we will be celebrating a few noteworthy artists who are from these communities. Please join us in celebrating them and their work!⁣
