When the 🤝🏼 . This week we covered an article titled: “Fast-growing asparagus once flourished on California farms. Why is it disappearing?” and you know asparagus might not sound like the most riveting of titles and topics, But this might be one of our favorite articles we have discovered.

It had topics like:
Importation exportation
Labor rights
Future of the food industry
Technology
Basically all the things you need for a good article.

A host post for the new DISCOS🤍🪩🫶🏻 welcome to We’re Natalie and Tara the faces behind the voices.

Natalie is a cattle rancher and pharmacist from central Nebraska, where she lives with her husband Luke and their three boys. She loves fashion (read that as is always online shopping), spending time finding new music/artists (it’s cathartic ok) & creating up delicious dishes in the kitchen.

Tara is a dairy farmer and environmental scientist from New Mexico. She lives on the family dairy farm with her husband Daniel and their two girls. For fun she loves going to the lake (her family is literally always at the lake), off roading at the sand dunes (apparently this is fun) and getting her hair as lush and tall and blonde as possible (literally tho).

Together we cover the hottest topics and viral news in the food and agriculture space through our female, millennial perspective. Our goal is to keep you up to date and give you something to talk about at your next outing or gathering with friends and family :)

You can tune into the podcast every Thursday anywhere podcasts are available! Were so happy you’re here and a part of the DISCO family 🤍🪩🫶🏻

We recently “discovered” the movie Unfrosted on Netflix for episode 161 of the podcast.

While much of the show seems to be more comedy than facts .. it is true that Kellogg’s and Post did have a long-standing rivalry along the lines of Ford versus General Motors and both companies were founded Jan Battle Creek, Michigan aka cereal city.

It’s actually kinda fascinating .. CW Post (the founder or post cereal) was ill so his wife and daughter took him to see Will Keith Kellogg and his brother, John Harvey Kellogg, both Seventh-day Adventists, whom had started the Battle Creek Sanitarium, a combination medical center and upscale residential spa. There they put CW (and other patients) on this diet special diet they had made of bland cereal. CW heals himself through food and is inspired to create cereal better than Kellogs.

Another fun fact from the movies we deep dived: milk and cereal. According to the movie a man named Milky Cashman spilled some milk into cereal one day and after realizing how delicious it was, he began to sell the product, popularizing the beloved dairy product. However, the Milky Cashman story isn’t true at all. In reality, a man named James Caleb Jackson is credited with having popularized milk in cereal. In 1863, James Caleb Jackson, a religiously conservative vegetarian who ran a DIFFERENT medical sanitarium in western New York, created a breakfast cereal from graham flour dough that was dried and broken into shapes so hard they needed to be soaked in milk overnight. It was called granula.

Apparently we have all the sanitariums to thank for cereal ha

Have you watched the show? What did you think ?

500k DISCOS !! We celebrated hitting the 500k download milestone last month and were absolutely giddy over it. The means so much to us and to have so many of you show up to tune in each week and partake in the conversations. Well damn … words don’t do it justice, so we guess happy faces, balloons and a disco champagne bottle will have to do the speaking for us 🪩🤍🫶🏻

To our discos , THANK YOU for being a part of the Discover community. We wanted to hit this milestone at our one year podiversery; but being a few months late isn’t too shabby either ;) We have so much planned for this year. We can’t wait to keep discovering with you!!

Also Do you know how hard it is to pose with balloons 😂

Now if you haven’t already tag a friend below who you think would enjoy listening to the podcast!
