Avery Darling’s story begins not in the lands of the North, but south, past the Nieder Straits and the Crossroads, across the Middle Sea, amongst the dunes of the great Crescent Desert. His parents, intrepid explorers, made their way across the Southlands on a tireless quest to document its’ monsters and beasts. They traveled with a skilled adventuring party across the vast deserts, lush savanna grasslands, and dense jungles that make up the geography of the Southlands, and it was here that Avery spent his childhood and adolescence. Those days are over now, his parents have since retired back to their home in the Free City of Zobeck. It is now Avery’s turn to pick up the mantle and forge his own path towards discovery. And so it goes, he packed up his mother’s old rucksack and ventured north in search of adventure. He joined the Ill Omens almost as soon as he arrived in the North. With their help, Avery is able to traverse the treacherous northern lands in relative safety, and in return he fights by their side whenever called upon. For what he lacks in stature, he makes up for with his ferocious spirit.
