My guest this week is Lori Lizarraga. She wrote a bombshell article for a Denver paper, detailing discrimination she says she and other Latina reporters encountered while working for her former TV station. All three women were let go by the station within the last year. Since speaking out, Lori has caught the attention of Colorado politicians as well as upper level news company leadership, who just announced a policy change related to language used in immigration coverage. **New season, new episode alert** Kicking off Season 2 with Georgia Fort, an independent video journalist based in Minneapolis. She defines her mission as “...changing the narrative by amplifying truth, citing diverse sources and contextualizing social justice issues.” Right now, she’s covering the murder trial of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer facing second and third-degree murder charges over the death of George Floyd. She also founded BLCK Press, a website that publishes stories from other independent media makers sharing diverse perspectives. Such a pleasure talking with Neki Mohan for Ep.15! She tells it like it is and is full of energy, despite going through some really tough times in the TV business. She told me no matter what job she was working, she always thought of herself as “CEO of Inc.” - now she’s an actual CEO of her own media and consulting company. In Ep.12, explains his frustrations with how cable news networks are talking about the Covid-19 variants and vaccine efficacy. He says they’re only focusing on one part of the immune response and neglecting to mention the role the rest of the immune system plays in identifying the spike protein and attacking it. He told “If you’re vaccinated, you’re still ok. And I think that point is being missed. The variants didn’t just get discovered yesterday. They’ve been around the entire time, even when they were doing clinical trials. So 95% efficacy is 95% efficacy.
