Thomas Gilbert Jr. was born into extravagant wealth, and grew up in the Hamptons and on Manhattan's posh Upper East Side. He attended elite schools such as The Buckley School, Deerfield Academy and Princeton University. Once he graduated college, he took off for years to surf in exotic locations like Brazil, Hawaii and South America, and his parents footed the bill. When he returned to New York, he ran in high-end social circles, dated relatives of famous actors, and received a hefty weekly allowance from his parents, who also paid his rent in upscale apartments. During this time, Gilbert never had a real job. But underneath the surface of this devastatingly handsome, rich and powerful man was an individual who was tortured by extreme mental health issues and drug addiction, which no professional or loved one could seem to properly diagnose or treat. This led to an increasingly volatile relationship with friends, girlfriends, and, preeminently, with his father, Thomas Gilbert Sr., that ultimately resulted in his death, in one of the most infamous patricidal cases of our time.

You may have heard of the New Jersey Devil? Also called the Leeds Devil, it is a flying, screaming, biped creature with cloven hooves, a horse or goat head, leathery wings and a forked tail, that is said to inhabit the remote woods of Pine Barrens, New Jersey. While some remain skeptical of it, others from New Jersey believe the Devil himself exists and inhabits certain residents of the state, making them torture and kill others in ritualistic and sadistic ways...

Two such residents of the state were 14-year-old Tommy Sullivan Jr. and 46-year-old John List. Tommy killed his own mother before killing himself, when he was just a young teenager, leaving behind an ominous note detailing a contract with the devil whose demonic possession over him forced him to commit the murder.

John List, a devout Christian, killed his own mother, wife and three children to save their immortal souls. He was worried for their characters in the name of Christianity because his 16-year-old daughter claimed to be a witch, hold seances at a demonic altar deep in the woods, and worship Satan.

Listen to The Devil Worship Murders and decide for yourself if the name implies a simple, fun NHL hockey team mascot, or if the Devil really lurks inside the Great State of New Jersey...

Steve Wynn is unarguably one of Las Vegas, Nevada's most famous people. A hotel magnate and real estate developer, Wynn was responsible for some of the strip's most exciting properties, such as the The Mirage, Treasure Island, Encore, and, of course, The Wynn Hotel and Casino. But Wynn's life wasn't always so glamorous...in July of 1993, Steve Wynn's 26-year-old daughter, Kevyn, was kidnapped from her swanky condominium in the Spanish Trails development. The three kidnappers then led Steve Wynn on a wild goose chase through his own casino, convenience store parking lots, and, ultimately, to McCarran International Airport, all the while demanding $1.45 million in ransom money. After the kidnappers got away with the funds, an FBI task force was set up, but it would take weeks before the criminals were apprehended. All because one of them attempted to buy a high-end sports car in cash, proving...What happens in Vegas, doesn't always stay in Vegas...

The numbers are staggering: Since 2016, over 6,800 Indigenous Women have gone missing in the United States. These same women are 10 times more likely to be victims of abuse, r**e or murder compared to any other race or ethnicity. And Native American Women are a tremendous 40% of the country's sex-trafficked victims. In Montana alone, Indigenous women make up 6.7% of the population, but 26% of its missing people. This is the story of four of those women: women who were targeted, tortured, drugged, taken against their will, missing, left for dead and murdered. They are Henny Scott, Kaysera Stops Pretty Places, Selena Not Afraid and Jermain Charlo. May justice one day be served...

Thanks to you guys, The Evergreen Murders Podcast has now jumped to #70 on the Fiction charts for Apple Podcasts! 2nd highest jump in the top 300!

The Evergreen Murders was my first podcast, something I did last Christmas for some seasonal fun before I started True Crime in the 50 in January...

I admit, I love those Hallmark Christmas movies, so I wanted to do a Drama Podcast in that same vein, but with a murderous twist...if you like those movies, check it out! If not, skip it and I totally get it, they're not for everyone! I still have 28 True Crime episodes from the Great State of Alabama all the way to my Brand-New one called "Missouri: Homicidal Pamela Hupp" for you to binge!

Around 9:30 pm, on December 27th, 2011, just off Highway H on a dead-end drive in Troy, Missouri, a man named Russ Faria came home from a game night with friends to find his wife, Betsy Faria, stabbed to death. Initially, Russ thought that Betsy had killed herself, as he could not see the extent of her injuries (she was stabbed 55 times,) and she was suffering from Stage 4 cancer and had attempted to do so twice before. But then, Betsy's death was ruled a homicide and Russ was the prime suspect. While Russ sat behind bars, another character would emerge...a woman by the name of Pamela Hupp, who was an acquaintance of Betsy's and had been the last person to see her before she died. As police slowly uncovered who Pam Hupp really was, they realized she was more of a conniving, manipulating and murderous monster than the unassuming wife and mother she pretended to be. And Betsy's killing would not be her last...not even close...

During the evening of December 6th, 2014, one dozen volunteer firefighters responded to a call about a car fire in the tiny town of Courtland, Mississippi, population 512.

When they arrived at the scene, they found not only a car on fire, but a person, as well. 19-year-old Jessica Chambers, a bubbly, sweet, former High School cheerleader and softball player had become engulfed in flames after being doused with gasoline and deliberately set on fire. She was flown to a hospital in Memphis, where she later died from her injuries.

The police set about tracking down her killer, but it would be no easy feat. Many male suspects, alleged gang affiliations and a web of lies and deceit was only the beginning. The jury case of the primary suspect would ultimately prove to be not only frustrating, but would turn out to be one of the most convoluted, bizarre and ineffective trials in the country's history...

On the night of October 22nd, 1989, three boys biked to a nearby convenience store to rent the movie Major League in the town of St. Joseph, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. The boys were Jacob Wetterling, 11, his little brother Trevor, 10 and a friend, Aaron Larson, also 11. Major League was rented out so they grabbed The Naked Gun instead and stocked up on candy. But as they were biking home, the unthinkable happened. The boys were stopped by a masked gunmen who made them lie on the ground and recite their ages before letting Aaron and Trevor go. He ordered Jacob into his car and the little boy was never seen or heard from again. What followed was a mystery that would not be solved until 27 years later. Little Jacob Wetterling's kidnapping would become one of the most infamous of all time and would forever challenge the concept of children's safety in small and tight-knit communities.

On January 24, 2012, the body of Jane Bashara, a 56-year-old resident of ritzy Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, was found dead in the backseat of her Mercedes SUV in a seedy area of Detroit. The police first went to interview her husband, Bob Bashara, who came from an extremely prominent Lebanese family in the area. Bob denied anything to do with his wife's murder. Eventually, the finger was pointed at a man named Joe Gentz, a developmentally disabled handyman who worked for Bob. But as the police continued to investigate the case, they would discover that Bob's squeaky clean Rotary Club life was not as it seemed. Bob was involved in affairs, tax evasion, a secret B**M lifestyle, had ties with the Italian Mafia, and definitely did not want a divorce from Jane; something Jane was pursuing. Investigators were certain Bob had something to do with his wife's death, but did he work alone? Or did he have an accomplice in Joe Gentz? And what had happened to Jane?

This is Gina Grant, who, in 1995, was admitted to Harvard University. On the afternoon of May 14th, 2015, a wallpaper installer named Donald Spence had just finished a job in an upscale neighborhood of Washington D.C. and was driving home, when he saw smoke pouring out of the upstairs windows of a high-end mansion. He ran up to knock on the door, fearing the residents were still inside, but all he could hear were dogs barking. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found four dead bodies: those of the house's owners, D.C. power couple Savvas and Amy Savopolous, their 10-year-old son Philip, and the housekeeper, Vera Figueroa. But what investigators were not prepared for was the story that would unfold about what had happened to the Savopolous family and Ms. Figueroa in the day and night leading up to the fire. It would reveal 22 hours of sheer fear, torture and greed. But the perpetrator would face justice thanks to the small clues left in a rare luxury sports car, a construction vest and hat, and, ultimately, on a slice of Domino's pepperoni pizza...

In October 2001, a 25-year-old woman by the name of Amy St. Laurent went out on the town late at night in the Old Port area of Portland, Maine. She was accompanied by a new friend, a man by the name of Eric Rubright, someone she had just met three weeks prior in Florida. As the night progressed, Amy met two more guys playing pool, lost Eric, and accompanied the two men, whose names were Jeffrey "Russ" Gorman and Kush Sharma, back to their apartment, where a birthday party was being held for Sharma's roommate, Jason Cook. But then, in the wee hours of Sunday morning, Amy went missing. As her family and friends frantically searched for her over the next days, weeks and months, new revelations on her whereabouts that night, and about who could have been responsible for her disappearance would slowly come to light...

In the month before Hurricane Katrina, two young people fell in love in New Orleans, Louisiana. They were Zack Bowen and Addie Hall. He was a 28-year-old Iraq war veteran, an already-divorced father of two. She was a hippie, a free spirit and a dreamer. They rode out the storm together, a famous picture of the two of them partying amongst the rubble, even showing up in Pl***oy and other national publications. But, in the aftermath of Katrina, things between the couple deteriorated and their downward spiral into drugs and alcohol, along with the seedy underbelly of the city, would produce a horrific outcome that no one could see coming. Ellis was shot and killed by multiple gunmen on May 25th, 2013 when he got out of his police cruiser on the Bluegrass Parkway in the middle of the night to help clear away debris that had been purposefully placed there. When Eddie himself won over $16 million in the Iowa State Lottery in 2010, Tommy testified for him in court. His main defense was that Eddie was seen on surveillance video buying convenience store hot dogs 🌭 at the same time he was buying the lotto tickets and Tommy testified that that man on the video couldnt have been his brother because he wasnt a "hot dog kind of guy." On September 14, 2000, the Lakeville, Indiana police received a call from a secretary at the Arndt Construction company saying that three of their construction workers had been found dead in a barn on the property of a mansion owned by the Sears family. They had been killed by four men from South Bend, Indiana, who had come to rob the house and had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. But how did these four murderers from out of town know to rob the residence when allegedly, no one was home? That was because Charity Payne, an unassuming, 18-year-old High School graduate from North Liberty, Indiana, had tipped them off. What happened after the murders was a devastating game of back-and-forth "he-said, she-said" that had people from all over the country asking the question: Indiana's Charity Payne: Villain or Victim?
