This week on the Pop and Politics podcast we cap off a busy week of headlines that started with a disastrous interview by the President with AXIOS on HBO which aired on Monday. When confronted with figures about the deaths of Americans from the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump responded with "It is what it is."

We also discuss the massive explosion that rocked the capital city of Lebanon. A fire and massive blast happened at the Port of Beirut. More than 300,000 people have been displaced from their homes. And years of government corruption could prove to prompt more anger from the people of the country.

And America is getting younger. A majority of the population is now under the age of 40. Millennials and Gen-Z now make up a majority of the US population. What does this mean for shifts in political power and conversation?

This week we talk about student loan debt in this country, and the benefits for providing, at least some, forgiveness of debt obligations to borrowers.

Student loan debt forgiveness became a hot debate topic during the recent democratic presidential primary, and now seems to become increasingly necessary in our pandemic riddled economy.

Of course, those in the "personal responsibility" crowd have expressed their opposition to student loan debt forgiveness. And, of course, as with anything else in our current political climate - this has become an increasingly partisan issue.

On this week's episode of Pop & Politics we take a look at a story that seems to have bridged the gap between political and popular culture. It is an alleged murder case in Brunswick, Georgia that has been thrust into the national spotlight. After moving at a slow pace for two months, the case of Ahmaud Arbery's killing has recently hit a warp speed. This after a video was released showing an alleged vigilante type altercation and murder of Arbery by two men who assumed he was a suspected burglar.

We look into the background of the case, how it has progressed, and discuss the bigger picture.
