Water and power are essential to life. Not having access to water and power creates harmful and dangerous conditions to families and even leads to trade-offs— having to choose between rent or food, utilities or transportation.
All Angelenos deserve universal access to water and power- that means not having to worry about their light and water going out. Click the link in our bio to access the LA Times article “Is your water or power being shut off? You have options”, highlighting RePower LA’s campaign to address the water shutoffs in LA’s vulnerable neighborhoods. Follow along as Radix highlights communities struggling for water justice around the world in the coming weeks.

Check out these beautiful maps showing the vascular system of rivers across lands. Art, analysis, or something else entirely? Our lives are lived in watersheds, and we are merely tribuatries to these life-giving land systems.

Please join us in DEMANDING JUSTICE for Honduran human rights defenders Edwin Espinal and Raúl Álvarez!

Tomorrow and September 14 at 9:30 am, they will stand trial on false criminal charges stemming from the 2017 electoral crisis. If found guilty, they will be sent back to prison for anywhere between 15 to 30 years!

As a result of these trumped up charges, Edwin and Raúl spent 19 months in a maximum-security prison from January 2018 to August 2019. They faced death threats, were put in isolation for several weeks, and were mixed with the general prison population in a prison that was allegedly constructed to house the most dangerous criminals in Honduras. Following their release, both have continued to sign before a judge every week and their trial has been postponed several times.

On September 13 and 14th at 9:30 am, Honduran human rights defenders Edwin Espinal and Raúl Alvarez will stand trial on charges stemming from the 2017 electoral crisis.

Our video, “Sowing Seeds of Change: Re-Envisioning Agriculture in North America” featured farmers and organizers in Chumash Land/Ventura County fighting for a world free from agricultural pesticides.

Studies have found that certain pesticides mimic estrogen, a factor that can disrupt hormones and may increase the risk of breast cancer.
Exposure to dangerous levels of pesticides, or low levels of pesticides over many years, tends to disproportionately impact the people who call the areas surrounding conventional farm fields home or work in the fields themselves, with communities of color in particular bearing the brunt of exposure.

Many thanks to the Pesticide Action Network (PAN) for this visual guide debunking myths about pesticide use that are often touted by large agricultural companies. We are grateful for the work of the organizers, farmers, policy makers, and activists who continue to struggle for change!

Congratulations to Oregon Clean Energy Opportunity Campaign (OCEO), and all of the organizations and individuals who came together to pass 3 incredible Energy Justice bills: 100% Clean Energy for All, Energy Affordability, & Healthy Homes. Frontline communities, including BIPOC, rural, and low income communities shaped these policies and led the training, mobilization, and advocacy for these bills to pass.

Because of this leadership, Oregon is now a leader in energy justice legislation nationwide, with the fastest timeline to transition to 100% clean energy with the highest labor standards, consultation of indigenous tribes, and a focus on community-based clean energy projects, among other wins. Thank you for your leadership in this step towards making this inspiring vision of care for each other and our planet a reality!

"We know that climate change and pollution are disproportionately impacting our Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and Pacific Islander communities. Therefore, the best solutions are the ones led by our communities, for our communities," said Eric Richardson, President of the NAACP Eugene Springfield Oregon Unit 1119. "That's why we are celebrating a 100% clean electricity standard that tackles climate change and fossil fuel pollution while uplifting Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities to receive the benefits of clean energy and jobs. It's thanks to the organizing of BIPOC Oregonians across the state that this justice-based bill has succeeded."

"Me llamo Francisco Vásquez , soy campesino, tengo 93 años. Me dedico a la labranza de la milpa, pero con pura coa . Vivo solito en mi casa, todos mis hermanos se murieron y también mi esposa hace tres años. Yo no estudié, lo único que tengo son imaginaciones. Aquí los vecinos me conocen que amanece y ya me voy a trabajar, regreso y me preparo mi comida, la tierra me lo da todo. Esa es mi vida, aquí nací y aquí me voy a morir...”
