Had a wonderful couple of hours this morning at Hersey Nature Reserve talking to about bird ringing and her role as a member of the BTO Youth Advisory Panel, taking photos of herons and recording a flock of Canada geese as they circled the water. All to be featured in an upcoming episode very soon

Sporadically for the last few months I’ve been trying out some astrophotography. Since buying a dslr a few years ago this has been the most challenging type of photography I’ve tried. Last Thursday the conditions were pretty much perfect. Clear skies, a new moon that was below the horizon, and it’s wasn’t too windy, or cold (I mean it was cold but not crazy cold). I managed to get this one shot, taken at Compton, right in the proposed Dark Skies Park area. Hopefully will get out again a few times before next months IW Dark Skies festival with and improve on this one, but for the first time I’m pretty happy with this one!

This new government abandoning environmental protection laws will be extremely damaging to all animal species (including us humans) and potentially devastating to all natural habitats in the UK. Write to the Isle of Wight’s MP Bob Seely on [email protected] and tell him we are putting our whole ecosystem at risk by allowing this to happen.
