President Hakainde Hichilema Wrote!

We welcome President Biden's recognition of the role that Zambia's youth played in upholding and defending democracy in our country.

As the President said in his address to the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly,

"Democracy lives on in the young people of Zambia who harnessed the power of the vote, turning out in record numbers to denounce corruption and chart a new path for their country"

We echo these words, and look forward to productive conversations with President Biden's administration while we are here in the United States.

Hakainde Hichilema
President of the Republic of Zambia

*UPND EXTENDS PERIOD FOR APPLICATIONS TO 2ND APRIL, 2021*

Lusaka - 25/03/21

The UPND Elections Committee has extended the closing date for the receiving of the 2021 Elections application to 2nd April, 2021.

Announcing the extension at a media briefing at the UPND secretariat this morning, Elections Chairperson, Garry Nkombo attributed the extension to the difficulties being experienced by most aspirants in the processing of Grade 12 certificates by the Examination Council of Zambia (ECZ).

Mr Nkombo also warned aspiring UPND members to be wary of unscrupulous individuals who are acting ECZ agents to avoid being duped, saying the party would not stand with any member found wanting.

The party has also waived off the 2-year membership requirement for those aspiring to contest as MPs, Councillors, Council Chairpersons and Mayors.

RB says has colon cancer

FOURTH Republican President Rupiah Banda says he has been diagnosed with cancer of the colon and has asked Zambians to remember him in prayers.

President Banda said having served Zambia at the highest level, he believes the people who gave him the opportunity to lead the country deserve to know his health condition.

"I have been moved to make this announcement taking into consideration that, although this is a personal and private matter which was actually only known by my relatives, including two sisters, Mrs Velesi Katema, Mrs Seba Zulu, my younger brother James Banda and my children here in Zambia and diaspora led by my eldest son James Banda, the Zambian people who honored me with the privilege to serve them as Head of State for which I will remain forever grateful and indebted, deserve to know that I have been diagnosed with cancer of the colon," President Banda said.

And President Banda said he is however conformed that he will fight the battle just as his wife Thandie did.

He has since asked Zambians to remember him in prayers.

"Most importantly as the nation will no doubt recall that I lost my first wife Hope Makulu Banda to cancer and as fate would have it, my wife Thandie Chilongo Banda is a cancer survivor. Therefore, her counsel, encouragement and support born out of her own experience after having successfully battled this type of disease is a great source of inspiration and confort to me."

BREAKING | PF SUSPENDS CHRISTOPHER KANG'OMBE FROM PARTY

The Patriotic Front in Kitwe has suspended city Mayor Mayor Christopher Kang'ombe with immediate effect.

Mr Kang'ombe has since confirmed receiving the letter, which states that he has been suspended from the party and from carrying out any party activities.

The Mayor was yesterday stopped by police from having a meeting with clergy because permission for the gathering had not been sought.

In a letter written by PF Kitwe District chairman Mr Everisto Chilufya, some of the reasons for Mr Kang'ombe's suspension include his alleged campaigns in Kamfinsa Constituency when the area has an elected MP.

Other reasons include the press briefing he and former Kitwe DC Binwell Mpundu and Kalulushi Mayor Rashida Mulenga had in Kitwe on Sunday when the Republican Vice-President was in the City.

MP LOOKS TO COURT OVER KALUMBILA COUNCIL SUSPENSION

UPND Mwinilunga Member of Parliament, Newton Samakayi has threatened to seek court’s intervention over the suspension of Kalumbila Council by Minister of local Government, Charles Banda.

He says the reasons for the 90 day suspension of Kalumbila Council contravenes the local government Act number 2 of 2019.

Mr. Samakayi says Section 56 of the local government Act and Article 152 of the Constitution of Zambia which the Minister used as the basis for suspending the council only gives power to the Minister to suspend councils that had failed to deliver according to their mandate.

On Thursday, Mr. Banda suspended the Kalumbila council for inviting UPND leaders inspect government projects without blessings from government.

Kalomo juveniles in trauma after friend’s death

Choma juvenile inspector Kazembe Zyambo says the two boys of Kalomo, aged 11 and 10, who allegedly caused the death of their friend should not be kept in police custody but taken to court immediately on the way forward because they are traumatised.

It is alleged that the two boys pushed their friend into a shallow well where he landed his chest on a rock.

Mr Zyambo said the boys are not faring well in police custody and are tensed up by the turn of events.

"Information I have is that one of the boys actually got sick in the cells and was taken to the hospital.

SENIOR CHIEF MUKUNI WARNS AGAINST PLANS TO FRAME HH DURING PRESIDENT LUNGU`S VISIT TO SOUTHERN PROVINCE

Senior Chief Mukuni of the Toka Leya People has warned those planning to frame the opposition UPND and its leader Hakainde Hichilema during President Edgar Lungu`S visit to Southern Province this week to desist from their intentions.

The traditional leader says he has received reports of a planned choreographed disruption of President Edgar Lungu's visit to Southern Province in which hordes of ruling PF party cadres will be ferried from Lusaka, to interface with crowds that will welcome the President in Monze and Bweengwa, and in the process carry out an altercation, which may result in a response from the president’s security detail.

He says the purpose of such a disturbance is to then blame it on the President's archival and UPND president Hakainde Hichilema, and then charge him for treason.

Senior Chief Mukuni says the people of southern province are very peaceful human beings who have lived peacefully alongside other ethnic groups for centuries, and such naked provocations will not alter their genetic status.

But PF Media Director Sunday Chanda is disappointed by Senior Chief Mukuni`s statement which he says is not befitting of a traditional leader.

Mr Chanda says it is unbelievable that a traditional leader who must be held in high esteem can issue such a partisan statement which can only be compared to that of a political cadre.
