This is a new kind of video that's different from my architecture and product design ones. It was really fun to make and I enjoyed reflecting on one of my biggest struggles - having trouble actually taking a break and letting my body, mind, and soul recover from a year full of hard work.

Check out the finished photos of this minimal wood stool and side table!

It was a fun project to design because all of the components came together with finger joints, slots, and simple wood biscuits that were laser cut. The simple connection details at the top and bottom of the wood stool took the most time to design because they're the critical attachments that hold the entire piece together.

The idea was to make something very simple and to integrate the finger joints/slots into the design aesthetic of the finished piece.

When I walk into my new craft studio, I want to start my work motivated and inspired to design something great. As we kick off 2021, I decided to design and make a beautiful motivational wall art that reminds me why I design and make all the unique products in my studio.

To design and make these beautiful graphics, I was excited to work with my friend Melissa from https://www.instagram.com/calligracrafty/ who took simple phrases that my fiance and I developed together and came up with the final graphics. These phrases were engraved onto sheets of Mahogany plywood, then finished with a natural oil.

First and foremost, Happy New Year!!

I can't believe I started YouTubing in May 2020 and kept up with designing and making new projects every week. In fact, I've actually been coming up with a lot of ideas for different types of videos including tutorials and new project types.

So, it was time to get rid of my simple grey backdrop and actually build a studio space to showcase all of my projects, most of which were made using my Glowforge laser cutter. You won't believe what was behind the curtains and how the space came out!

Making an Acrylic Big Apple or Heart Light

This Big Heart Light was inspired by all the kind acts of giving that I've seen going on in my neighborhood and that I've gladly contributed towards. Through a Buy Nothing group on Facebook, lots of people in my local community have given away gifts, both large and small. I've given away an old DSLR camera, Christmas ornaments, Halloween themed earrings, a mattress, entire bedroom furniture set, and more! Best of all, I've seen lots of people giving others gifts for their family who might not be able to afford or obtain one for Christmas this year.

2020 has been a year filled with unexpected events; from living through the pandemic to my engagement with my fiance and starting a YouTube channel, there has been lots of beautiful moments throughout the year that I'll remember and cherish forever. This has been a really big year of giving for me and I can't wait to continue it next year!

Making a Custom Wood Desk Organizer and Light

After I made the semi-circle desk organizer that looked like a rainbow when it was filled with pens, I realized that I also needed diffused light at my desk because it's in a dark corner of my room.

So, I went back to the drawing board and designed this custom desk organizer that has 4 large pen cubbies, 2 large open shelves, and an integrated dimmable LED light. This project took some finesse to get all the pieces into place, but it was definitely one that has been put to great use during my daytime career as an architect.

When I shared a photo of it without any pens, a lot of my friends asked for one because they thought it was a small plant holder... 😆

Making 10 Christmas Ornaments on a Glowforge

With Christmas quickly approaching, I wanted to give something to people in my local commuity and support other designers and makers who create their own files and sell them on Etsy or give them away on their personal websites.

What better way to bring this crazy year to an end than to support others and give away beautiful creations to my local community?

For this project, I decided to purchase digital design files from 3 different makers and laser cut them on my Glowforge. One of the designs was a good comedic relief to this hectic year and the others were beautifully designed Christmas themed ornaments.

This Acrylic Christmas Tree Light is made from translucent green acrylic and was designed in two parts. The base is tall and is comprised of the widest parts of the Christmas tree. The second part is what I call the crown, which is a separate component that is installed after the light bulb is installed.

I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving!! After stuffing my face with a lot of delicious food and spending a lot of time relaxing with my fiance and awesome pet, I finished up my video edits for the 3 layered round light that I made out of Mahogany plywood.

This project was inspired by the He Art Museum designed by one of my favorite architects, Tadao Ando. The museum has a circular floor plan and the higher floors are slightly offset, which creates an overhang. Using this design feature along with the vertical solar shades, I came up with a design for a simple wood light.

The 3 layered round light was made with mahogany plywood and connected via finger joints and open joints. These features made it easy to align every piece and friction fit them into place without the use of any wood glue.
