Poetry people, I present the wonderful Oliver J Lomax Esq.





A new, soon to be published poem. Inspired by the beautiful act of solidarity that brought Picasso’s Guernica to Manchester in 1939 to support the Spanish Republican cause. It was displayed in a car showroom on Deansgate, long since demolished (now the site of Harvey Nichols).

A proud and never more relevant piece of Manchester and Salford history, some of the documentation surrounding this event is housed at the wondrous Working Class Movement Library in Salford, head down if you want to find out more. Most proud that this poem is going to be published in the amazing Aftershock Review huge thanks to the fabulous poet and editor Max Wallis.

What an amazing evening myself and had last night at with two amazing poets as part of the Chester literary festival.

Headlining the show was with his amazing show Joy! A beautifully written meandering through what joy means and how we can find it in our chaotic lives. The dialog never stopped weaving tales with poems and having the sold out Garrett Theatre in fits of laughter.

In support was , a friend of the label and personally who headlined our own event in Macclesfield earlier in the year. Ol's poetry is wonderful. Little vignettes of life, and death, told from a perspective of love, compassion and humour. Some of my favourites were in last night's set including "Don't you laugh at my astroturf Diane" and "Tonyblairone".

Poetry is such an important part of our arts and culture.

If you can pop over to both of these amazing poets bio and go buy a book. They are not a lot of money, and would make a huge difference to them

I've never understood racism. It's a learned behaviour, kids aren't racist until they learn to be from some small minded bigot.

Judging anyone as lesser because of the skin tone they have is ridiculous.

I have traveled to and worked on every continent except Antarctica. I have been lucky enough to work with some amazing people, whose company I have loved and finding out about their country and culture has been amazing. All of this has enriched my life, and made me better for it.

The rise of rightbwing jingoistic xenophobic politics in the UK, by the Tories and Farage's poundland Oswald Mosely impressions are stoking a rise in overt racism.

It's all bulls**t. As is judging someone for their gender or orientation.

Britain is made great by our diverse cultures.

We are all citizens of earth. We are all just folk.

I live a trawl through charity shops. They are such a trove when it comes to poetry. Oxfam are particularly good at grouping poets together.

This was today's haul of books from in Helsby. We called in on our way back from a wonderful dog walk along West Kirby beach.

Carol Ann Duffy - Selected Poems (from her first four collections)

What a night, what a night!

Thank you to everyone involved for making our first event such a beautiful evening.

Thank you to the staggeringly amazing artists that graced the mic; , , and Ash from on decks, .s and , and our incomparable compere . Everyone delivered stellar sets that gave me goosebumps, made us all laugh and cry and think about the world we live in.

As John put it, this was a night of headliners, all sharing their work with everyone present.

We also raised around £130 for (Palestine Children’s Relief Fund) from the sale of pin badges and the massively generous Oliver J Lomax donating all the proceeds from the sale of his books as well. You're a superstar for this Ol!

Thank you as well to for hosting us, to for putting on the 3-day after party and to the Lantern team for helping me set-up and tear down and for filming the whole evening and .eye for getting us out of a hole when I forgot the mic stands and banner!

We will be making the recordings of everyone's sets available in the next week or so, once we get chance to process them and get them on the site.

Can't wait to work with everyone again soon.

We're going to take a little time now to plan what we're going to do and where, but stay tuned, and we will be back!

Follow the Money Out Today!

Somewhere under the Houses of Parliament there’s an illegal rave going on. This is the last dance.

A hard hitting click groove with a hint of 12 bar blues gets served up with social satire sounding like a pi**ed off Tricky. It’ll have you dancing angrily around the kitchen, then marching through the streets for change.

It’s a protest song for the modern age and as such all monies will be donated to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
