🚨Climate Emergency Day 2024 🚨

The clock is ticking louder than ever and it is a stark reminder that we have a mere 4 years left to dramatically reduce fossil fuel emissions and keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius.

This is the first time the Climate Clock has dipped below five years. It's time to panic, but more importantly, it's time to act.

Tired of seeing brands brag about being "green" without any proof?

We've all been there. But fear not, this post equips you with the knowledge to spot brands that are truly committed to sustainability 🤗

1) Look for the green flags 💚- Brands that are transparent about their practices. Do they share info on their supply chain and materials? Honest brands will tell you both the good and the not-so-good. Clear labeling is another green flag.

2) Packaging Matters 📦- Sustainable brands ditch excessive plastic and opt for recycled or biodegradable materials. Minimal packaging is a good sign overall. Less waste is always a win!

3) Trustable Certifications✅ - Keep an eye out for trusted certifications! The FSC label ensures responsible forestry practices, while Fairtrade guarantees ethical sourcing. These third-party verifications add a layer of trust.

4) Don't get deceived 😶‍🌫️-Last but not the least, but most important. Watch out for vague language and all-around eco-buzzwords that don't translate to real action.

Remember, the power to choose is yours!

By educating yourself, you can support companies that align with your values and truly make a difference.

Singtex Industrial Co. Ltd., a textile company based in Taiwan, owns S.Café®️, led by its founder and president, Jason Chen. The S.Café yarn technology, introduced in 2009, stands out for being the first to convert leftover coffee grounds into fabric. The manufacturing process begins at roasting facilities and coffee bars, where coffee beans are roasted, pulverized, and brewed between 160 and 220°C. The expanded interiors of the roasted beans play a key role. These prepared grounds are then used to extract coffee, which is integrated into plastic filaments from recycled PET bottles through a low-temperature, high-pressure process. The result is a unique thread combining the properties of coffee and recycled materials. Despite only 2% usable coffee extract after the extraction process, Chen estimates that the remains from a cup of coffee can make two to three t-shirts. S.Café®️ showcases technological innovation and sustainability in the textile industry.

Meet Pieter Hoff - a brilliant Dutch inventor and entrepreneur who founded Groasis, a company that tackles water scarcity and land restoration. One of their most notable inventions is the Groasis Waterboxx, which is a game-changer in the world of agriculture and reforestation. This innovative solution captures and retains water efficiently, while minimizing water evaporation. By planting seeds or young plants in the center of the Waterboxx, capillary wicks draw water from compartments to the root zone, ensuring a consistent water supply. This results in successful plant growth in arid conditions - a sustainable solution for reforestation and agriculture. The Groasis Waterboxx is an ingenious invention that has the potential to make a real difference in the world, and it is all thanks to Pieter Hoff's visionary mind and dedication to solving global problems.

Tower Farms exemplifies the integration of technology and sustainability in modern agriculture, addressing challenges related to land scarcity, water conservation, and climate resilience.
Tower Farms utilize vertical space efficiently, allowing for the cultivation of a large number of plants in a compact footprint.
Unlike traditional soil-based farming, Tower Farms employs aeroponic technology, where plants are grown in a nutrient-rich mist without the need for soil. This method promotes faster growth and higher yields while minimizing water usage.

COP28 President, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, has delivered the first major milestone of COP28 by announcing a historic agreement. The agreement will operationalize a fund that is aimed at assisting developing countries that are especially vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. The negotiations have termed this as 'loss and damage'.
-This achievement is a result of the parties resolving 5 transitional committee meetings, following the agreement that was made during COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. With the Fund now in action, we can help combat climate change and protect those who are most susceptible to its effects. This is a significant step towards a more sustainable and secure future for all.

The City of London Corporation has proposed that skyscrapers in the Square Mile, the city's financial district, should dim their lights at night to reduce visual pollution and save energy.

Property owners would be asked to switch off unnecessary lights, creating "brightness zones" governed by curfews.

The move aims to combat energy wastage and light pollution caused by office buildings using lights when few or no workers are present.
