CALL FOR ARTISTS - Traffic Box Art 2025

The City of Boise invites artists to apply for the opportunity to create or supply artwork for the 2025 Traffic Box Program. Selected artists will be paid $1,000 to create or supply original artwork to be digitized and fabricated into a vinyl wrap. Artists may use original, existing artwork or create new, original artwork which could consist of illustration, painting, digital images, textiles, mosaic, photography, photographs of original artwork, and more.

This year's call challenges artists to respond to the following prompt: Create an entirely new Boise through the playful use of non-naturalistic colors, forms, and perspectives; a subjective depiction of the natural world.

A community-based selection panel may select up to 16 artists or artist teams to implement their design proposal for boxes located in Boise's Westside District.

📝 Info Session: Tuesday, October 1, at 1 p.m. (MT) via ZOOM
🙋 Questions/Clarifications: Via email by Wednesday, October 9, at 1 p.m. (MT)
✅ Deadline: Wednesday, October 16, at 1 p.m. (MT)

This opportunity is open to applicants of all ages. Local artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more and apply at boiseartsandhistory.org/Opportunities/Calls-Opportunities or at the link in bio.

Boise is home to a piece of the World Trade Center that fell on 9/11. The steel beam was made in to a sculpture at the Idaho Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park, surrounded by rings of polished stainless steel.

The sculpture was made in 2013 by creator J. Amber Klinsky.

There’s a new mural in downtown Boise, celebrating the life of JJ Saldaña. Saldaña passed away unexpectedly a year ago.

Artist Bobby Gaytan depicted Saldaña as a superhero in the mural, which he was thanks to community connections and work with the Hispanic community. The piece is called for “Flowers for JJ”

The mural is painted on the east end of Union Block, covering part of the Key Financial Center and a parking garage, connected by a utility bridge between the two buildings.

The mural was funded by a grant from Boise City Arts & History.

Call to artists‼️

The Boise City Department of Arts & History is looking for artists to apply for the chance to create digital artwork for vinyl mural installations at the Erma Hayman House. Selected artists will be paid $4,500 to create original artwork, which will be temporarily displayed on two walls flanking the home.

The website says "artists must create new, original artwork which could consist of illustration, painting, digital images, textiles, mosaic, photography, or photographs of original artwork, that is or can be digitized. Artwork should feature one narrative with design that spans two walls."

The artwork will be displayed for 6 months, and up to four artists or artist teams will be selected. The concept prompt for the art is: What story would you like to tell that would continue, expand, or build on the history of the Erma Hayman House and the River Street Neighborhood?
